I can't blame you for your lack of excitement but at least it shows that ford recognizes its an issue and is working on it. I have to believe that after the first tsb was a total failure, they made sure this one was not before they released it.
So I wonder how Ford will reconcile this "fix" with special service message 22265 - "Reduced Engine Performance Due to Air Flow Restriction Across Charge Air Cooler".
Maybe that's the flash? I've heard these run way rich from the factory so maybe the flash is a slight tune to pull some fuel out to compensate? Just a guess on my part, I have no idea what the flash entales.
I have an 11 FX4 EB and have never had any of the problems others have had but it sure seems more than a little strange that Ford didn't want anyone to put a lower grill on the EB because it would reduce air flow to the cooler and cause damage. They even said it would void the warranty. Now they need to restrict the cooler because it works to well. I guess this explains why the folks that put the lower grill on have not had any problems with it causing damage. My question is why don't all EBs have this problem if the cooler works too good on one it should work the same on all of them. I live in Kansas with high heat and high humidity so mine should have the same problem but doesn't.
Jakeman68 you are doing the community a huge service with your inside info and we appreciate that.
However, im just not convinced the problem these guys are having is because of grand intercooler efficiency...... what a crock.
ICs have been front mounted for decades and there has never been these issues. I think the "shudder, studder" problem is more fuel or spark related but i dont experience it at all so thats only an opinion.
Replacing the cat is a start but remember there is reason they are going bad... OVER fueling!!
