I have read page after page of adding deflectors to the IC. Makes me wonder if the IC is even needed if you are going to block 3/4 of it?

I use Ultra Gauge all the time..... Ambient Temp for example is 80 degrees and intake temp is 80 degrees. The only time I see any difference is when I shut the truck off for a few minutes and when I return intake temp can be anywhere from 10 to 40 degrees hotter. Doesn't matter if it is a cool day or hot day.

Has anyone just taken the IC out and replaced it with a tube?

Your UltraGauge is reading IAT before the turbos, not after the intercooler.

Removing the intercooler may not be needed, but it WILL result in a loss in power.

It is very much needed. Air coming out of the turbos can be in excess of 200*. That's going to lead to a large amount of knock and severely reduced timing.

Any more people have experience with the new intercooler/intake?

I got to take a prolonged trip over the weekend, bout 260 miles each way. On the way up temps fell from around 40 to 25 by the time we arrived at our destination. After about 3 hrs driving, I pinned it from 45 mph. Did not fall on its face but didn't seem like it had as much get up and go. Pinned it again a little bit later from about 15-20 mph and I can ususally get the tires to chirp when doing so, but it didn't. Just felt like it wasn't making that much power. I had a slight head wind that night and was going 80 mph the first leg of the journey, 65-70mph for the last 80 miles or so. Got about 17.5 mpg. Way home was much better, the 65 mph leg was 21.5 mpg and the rest of the way was about 80 mph and ended the trip at home at 19.5 mpg. Was very happy with that condsidering the speed, did have a little tail wind helping.

This is the "edit" from a mod? This is a bit inappropriate IMO. Mods are supposed to clean up this type of talk not promote it.

Inappropriate ? Yes a little. But as far as I am concerned Wwest keeps coming back trying to cause trouble even though he was permanently banned. He's fair game

When the Ecoboost switches from NA to turbo mode, it causes a pressure drop in the intercooler which causes sub-ambient temperatures resulting in condensation buildup. The Ecoboost uses the bypass valves to control boost, and the wastegates to protect the turbos from overspeeding. I know because I build nuclear reactors.
Seems straight forward and logical

Thanks Mike for keeping factual information in this thread.
So here you go, this ones for WWest and all his incarnations past and future. We have here the twin cooling towers above my hood bypassing the condensation buildup from the sub-ambient temperatures of the nuclear fission powering my F150.

Hilarious! Only problem is that would take actual engineering haha!!!
