Sticking throttle

Sticking throttle
Hello all, I am new to this site but have been following it for half a year now. I have a 2013 f-150 5.0 stx 4x4. I have a CAI as well as borla ATAK exhaust installed. Last night I pulled out onto the highway and mashed the throttle a little over halfway to the floor as I usually do then a light promptly turned red in front of me. I released my foot from the throttle to proceed to coast but the truck kept accelerating. The pedal was not stuck on anything. For some reason my first reaction was not to hit the break but to put it in neutral because I knew that it would stop it from accelerating further, however I have since been told it would have been better to shut the engine off to reduce the possibility of damage to the engine by over revving. I know all new f-150s are drive by wire now so I am wondering what could have caused this? And could I have hurt my engine as I threw the truck into neutral. Another side note is that I can put my truck into drive and it will act as it is in gear and in reality is in gear but the D on dash lights will not light up, at this point all I would do is tap the column shift lightly with my hand and the D will light up. As I accelerated onto the highway I noticed the D had not lit up, I promptly bumped it lightly so the D would light up at about 3500 RPMs and it seemed like that is when the throttle simultaneously stuck. Coincidence? I have bumped it into ad on the move before and nothing like that has ever happened. Can anybody tell me what could be going on? My truck is well under warranty at 7300 miles, will probably take into dealer but I wanted to see what the experts here thought or knew first. Thank you for your responses. My name is Matt. NOTE: when the D is not lit up on my dash lights and my truck is in gear, none of the other M,N, P, 1,2 lights were lit up either.

There is a rev limiter so nothing will "over rev"... If you cut it off you lose your power assist for the brakes. Steering assist is electric so it will continue to work. I'd pop it into N and just let bounce off the rev limiter until I got stopped and then shut it off. Your safety comes first...then the motor's...

I would say that your sticking throttle is definitely related to you bumping the shifter. I would get it to the dealership and have your shifter checked out. They should be able to get you fixed up so you don't have to bump your shifter while driving.

Had a friend with a 2013 5.0 have the same problem one time. Took it back to the dealer they told her to take a picture of the gauges next time it does it................... Im serious, that's what they told her. Has only done it the one time and the pedal was not sticking nor was the floor mat holding it.

Okay great, thank you all for the responses it has helped out a lot, i'm going to take it into the dealer soon and get them to look at it and hopefully fix it. Should I put my stock air intake back in before I take it there? I also have a throttle body spacer which I wish I hadn't bought installed.

Take it to the dealer to document the problem. I once test drove a Audi with drive by wire at an autocross style event. I left off the gas and the car kept accelerating for a few seconds, needless to say I wasn't very impressed.

Gave a drunk guy a ride home in his Denali one night he said punch it...reluctantly I did(wasn't impressed) and got up to about 80 with a 90 degree corner coming up...and the thing kept accelerating. Was scary for sure. Drunk guy just laughed and said happens sometimes haha
