Default Southern Speed opinion and issues

Ok, I have seen all the threads about this company. I am not trying to start another argument just stating my opinion based on a current transaction with the company and maybe get someone elses opinion. My truck is a 2014 5.0 btw.

About 2 and a half weeks ago I placed an order with Shawn for a SCT tuner, 2 tunes, and a afe drop in filter. Initialy he was very responsive to email and questions until he got his money. I got the tuner overnighted and he did follow through with that but after several days there were no tunes. This has continued for going on almost 3 weeks now.
Initally there was a small setback with software and the new 2014 f150 5.0, he said it was something on fords end and to not worry that is was an easy fix just not right this second. I let a few days go by and sent him a couple of emails requesting updates but got no response or call backs when left messages. I talked to him two times and he has said if they are not in your email be this time to call him back and still nothing.

I have not received the filter either. I called him a couple of days ago asking for a tracking number and he said he would try to get that to me, I also asked him if he was still working on the 5.0 tunes he said yes. I sent him an email the next day asking about the tracking number or the vendors info and I would track it down. Here is basically what the email said:

Shawn, this is Chris. I called yesterday about possibly getting a trackingnumber for the air filter I ordered. If you don’t have that information couldyou tell me what vendor it shipped from and ill do the leg work.

Also,I was wanting to get an update on the f150 5.0 tunes. I do realize that you arebusy and also these things take some time but please realize that I spent $600+at your company and only have a tuner to show for it. When I have contacted you in the past Iwas told check back in a few days a couple of times. Please look at it from myperspective, I am kind of in the dark here and only have your word andreputation to rely on and at some point I will give up on those too. Don’tmisunderstand me, I want you to take your time and get it right, I just didn’tknow it was going to take going on the 3rd week for the tunes to beproduced.

He replied with OK Chris.....coming right up

I replied with
If you have no intention of ever sending the tunes or you planto continue to push this back, I would appreciate if you would reimburse mypaypal
for the2 tunes. Also, unless you can tell me where the filter is at or who it camefrom send me the money back for that also. Ill pay for the tuner. If I don’t hear backfrom you by the end of the day about what you plan to do, I’ll inform my creditcard company and you can figure it out with them. Tired of being led on and theexcuses. I have also noticed that you waste no timegetting paid but it’s almost impossible to stay in contact with you and receivefollow up details after you have received your money. I’m sorry man but youcustomer service is severely lacking.

He told me to call him so I just talked to him a few minutes ago and he said something about his parts guy messing up a lot of orders, stealing, and some fraud stuff he had to persue leagal matters and thats what was occupying his time. Shawn really does seem like a nice guy and he seems to know what hes talking about when it comes to the tunes and it sucks that a few individuals are apparently screwing up his company. Frankly as a customer I dont give a damn about that stuff or anything else other than results for my money or at least to be kept in the loop and not feel like im just being ignored or swept under the rug.

So I told him that if he can give me the info for the filter and have those tunes to me by Wednesday the 12th that everything will be good and no refund will be necessary. From what I have read, everyone says his tunes are among the best. Im just curious how long does it actually take to rig up a tune that I am assuming is almost the same for everyone other than changing a few minor things and send it out?

Because I have been in the exact same position as you are right now and have been screwed out of products and I absolutely can not stand when companies do this to customers, send me your info and I will write you a free tune for your 5.0...

If you are interested in the filter or intake setup, we can talk about that as well...

Either way I will get you a free tune on me...

I hate people not getting what they spent their hard earned money on...

Sounds like a load of crap excuses to me. I did not go with this guy for a tune on my truck because he has been brought up on some of the mustang forums I'm a member of as being shady. I've also seen some of his text messages to others and he is not the kind of guy i want to do business with.

Why don't you go to his forum and ask the questions you are asking here. You will get answers from people that actually know what is going on and won't tell you third hand answers. Just my opinion.

he obviously is getting the run around from the main man himself. Who else should he be contacting?

Yeah, even if I dont get the money back for the tunes, which I am hoping I just actually get them. I am willing to chalk it up as a lesson learned if nothing else comes from it. I have the tuner that nothing has been done with other than SCT got some info from my truck to use on their end because they dont have any canned tunes that work on the 2014 5.0 im guessing due to an ecu change or strategy change. The filter is an unknown at this point. I had a gut feeling not to go this route but I did and now I am paying for it. Refund was brought up when I talked to him and he said it would take him a couple of days to send the refund if I wanted to go that route. That tells me right there that even after all of this that he still really doesnt get what its about. When it comes to peoples money especially customers that you depend on, you dont mess around, you do **** right then. Maybe that is my military background coming out, or that I work for a service company in the Oil industry and when customers out here want something, they arent asking for it to be done when its convenient for you or when you get over your personal issues.

I have been to his forum and it is biased and has a small population. No one knows more about whats going on with that company than Shawn. Plus he said some individuals on his forum are even part of them problem. I want to do business with this guy, I want him to make it right and succeed, but people here need to know how things are handled there and what to expect if you buy something as of right now.

Im not really looking for peoples opinions on southern speed, there are a lot out there already. Just want to know if I am out of line and what others might do if they were in this situation. Also am I being unrealistic to expect results faster than 3 weeks?

I don't think you are out of line at all. Imagine that you actually want what you paid for. Crazy talk.

Move on man, there are other reputable tuners out there that are stand up businesses.
