Default Snappiness difference...

My 2012 F-150 5.0 is in the shop for some body work and Enterprise let me have a rental at the same price that the other persons insurance is paying for on a 2013 5.0 F-150. Same truck pretty much besides side steps and the dash display and trailer brake.

The 2013 seems to be quicker and accelerate faster than my 2012. I dont know what fuel they had in it but I run 91. Guess maybe I should check the gear ratio as well as mine has the 3.55. Also it shifts better and firmer.

Any ideas here on why this is?

Because Racetruck! I don't know to be honest. Never drove a 2012 other than a 6.2 that seemed slower than my 5.0. It had 26k in a year on her. I think it was abused and poorly maintained. Could a got a deal on it but not when the 5.0 felt faster. I know its not supposed to be like that so I was turned off on that truck. Happy with my 13 5.0

The '13 has only 500 miles on it. Idk why I am wondering so much but wish my 12 had as much power. maybe the tires and wheels have something to do with it as well. Not sure

If it has 3.73 gears you'll notice a difference for sure

Ok the axle code is 19 so its a 3.55 non-limited slip axle. So has the same gear ratio as mine. Now I am really stumped

Don't know. That's a good question.

Pickup news, or whatever that website is, got two very different results when dyno running two different 5.0 trucks.

They might also have ethanol in the tank. This engine loves E85. While peak horsepower and torque are a little higher, the big gains come in down low power. Mine is a completely different animal on corn juice.

It could that Ford did some changes to the strategy tune on the 13's. Ask your dealer about it and see what they say. There might be an update that could apply to yours.

I disagree. Probably wouldn't notice much and trucks with the 3.55 rear end are known for having the quickest 1/4 mile times.

Yeah I have only done routine maintenance so far so its only seen the quick lube side of the dealership. Need to have the back up driveshaft snap looked at then I will ask about the other issues as well.

I can easily tell the difference between 3.55 and 3.73.
