Default Should I get a tuner

I know the tuners can wake up the ecoboost motors but I have a 5.0 because reasons.

I would love the idea of modding the truck with a blower, etc, but that isn't going to happen unless I win the lottery and don't have to go to work anymore.

Truck gets driven every day, will I notice any change running e85 or 87 octane with a basic tune that would make it worth my effort, or should I keep the money in my wallet and blow my money elsewhere? The only other mod I have is a muffler swap and no intention of doing anything else to the engine.

Tune makes a difference on the 5.0 as well. Even with just 87.

You will feel a noticeable difference with the 5.0. It responds very well to a tune.

It is not just the engine tuning, but the transmission tuning that makes the truck more fun to drive.

Agree with above, I have stock 2014 5.0 FX4 and got the BDX tune and got the OZ tune and it really woke up the truck. Throttle response is better and more power.

I just loaded the SCT strategy tune into my 14 5.0. Selected 93 octane, torque management turned off, selected "increase shift firmness", set all shifts at 25%.

Holy cow! It is a different vehicle to drive! It barked the 1-2 and 2-3 shift HARD! Reduced the shift pressures to. 15,15 10,10,and 5. Still will bark the tires on the 1-2. For the stop and go driving I do, it is much more civil, but still is a huge improvement.

on highway, the responsiveness is so much quicker.

it is the same tuner I used on my 5.4, but completely different results.

The only quirky thing is that under slow driving conditions, when letting off the throttle slowly, the rpm seems to "hang" a bit before returning to base idle, noticeable on the 3-1 downshift. A slightly heavier foot on the brake is in order.

Maybe I'll put this on my birthday list since my wife keeps bugging me. Would be nice to have a performance/towing tune and a gas mileage tune for the highway when we travel.

Running the 91 octane SCT tune in my 3.7. I too noticed, both on 87 and 91 tune, the "hang" on rpm when you let off gas in some situations.
I picked "firmer shifts" but didnt touch any other settings except tire size and tpms settings. Im tempted to try the shift settings now.

To the OP yeah get a tuner. I am quite happy with my 3.7 since i did the tune, and you have a 5.0 presumably not loaded with 800# every day. You will notice the difference.

Economy/mileage tunes are useless. Skip em.

Get performance/towing tunes in 87 and whatever the highest octane is in your area.
