Scratched Tundra, now 5.0 or EB?

Love my 5.0... Chose it over the EB cause I didn't have a need for the low end torque, and also had worries about possible maintenance issues. I am getting 19 hwy, and 15-16 city with 33's

You simply can't get good mileage with a warming up motor doing stop and go, taking the kids to school or running across town with 15 stop lights between you and the 7 miles you go to work. You won't get decent mileage with a 4 cyl doing that. The f150 with the 3.7 can deliver if it has a 3.73 axle. For stop and go not so good 17 mpg. For across town onto an expressway you can push past 20 mpg and if going into a strong head wind shift to m5 and gain a mile per gallon to 21/22. Running the truck on the 2 lane black top with a tail wind driving 60 mph you can easily see 23.8 over 100 miles non stop if you drive it smoothly. Driving into the wind you will see 19 mph over the same run and shifting to m5 on hills and where the truck labors will raise your mileage to 21/22 mpg. It's all about not working the little motor hard and asking it to deliver 300 HP all the time when it only needs 200 to get the job done. Less HP, better mileage. If you need performance, like pulling a boat or hauling a rack full of ladders fill up with higher octane gas. You got a 10.5 compression motor there.

I love how everytime a thread comes up about someone buying the EB, they are always worried about the repair costs and mention turbos having problems too. Turbos are a VERY simple and highly effecient power adder with great longevity and should last every bit as long as the rest of the components on the motor.
The motor hasn't been out long enough to determine any longevity or reliability issues just yet, but the turbos themselves should not be high on your list of concerns. Truth be told there are more moving parts to the V8 than the EB if you really want to get technical
In the end the MPG issue is a VERY close call in just about all areas when you compare the two. Identically optioned trucks with the only difference being the 5.0 or the EB will get within 1-2mpg of each other in equal conditions. In a supercrew 6.5 bed 4x4, I would expect 17-18 with the 5.0 and 18-19 with the EB, assuming 3.73 gears.
The MPG and power are great for both and you can't go wrong with either of them. The determining factor for me was the powerband of the EB versus the 5.0. All your torque is available from 2500rpm on up and since we do 90% of our driving in the 1500-3500rpm range, to ME the EB was a more usable powerplant.

They are fixed geometry turbos.
Not sure about where you live but if you are near any kind of altitude, get the EB. Also, one thing that I like is that when going up hills in cruise the EB does not down shift especially when towing. Just crawls up the hills.
Can't go wrong with either.

I got the 5.0 4x4 off road with 1300 miles have average a little over 17.5 mpg. Weather getting much colder so that will drop a little. I liked the Eco but dealers in my area would not deal on them near as much I got the 5.0 in same truck for about $3000 less. There was no way I would pay that much more for a Eco..

Ecoboost will obviously get better hwy mpg but city should be the same. I only get 12 mpg city with my 3.7 4x4 3.73. But I do live in an area with tons of hills and traffic lights. My commute to work is also only a 4 min drive. In the summers I usually ride my bike to work.
