Road Test Review: 2011 Ford F-150 XLT 5.0-liter V-8

The articles conclusions do not surprise me a bit.
Scared of new technology, no way. The 5.0 is all aluminum, coil over ignition, double overhead cams etc.
I do not think the Ecoboost owners need to be scared of new technology either until they reach the mileage point they have to replace the twin turbos and heat management systems and or engine. What mileage point that is remains to be seen. But look under the hood of a 5.0 and see what a breeze it will be to service major components and even swap out a whole engine.
That is what gives me a lot of comfort about the 5.0 in addition to all of its technology.

Old news.............
Sounds like you bought the truck that fits you though, so thats good.
I bought my truck for 2 reasons:
1. the ability to tow 10k+ pounds (i have a toybox that weighs 11k loaded).
2. the performance of the 6.2 with the mpg of the 3.7...almost.
Those 2 reasons are DAMN impressive to say the least and although i think the 5.0 is an AWESOME motor in the Mustang... i cannot see why people buy it in the F150 when they have the 6.2 and EcoB as choices.......... seriously cannot see why.
Other than sound cool, the 5.0 does absolutely NOTHING better than the ECO in stock form.
Flame on

For those worried about the reliability I don't know why they always talk about the turbos. Yes they can cook, and maybe some have on the eco(so I was told but haven't seen) but for the most part they are reliable if you don't beat them when they're cold and let them cool after you've been working them hard before shutting the engine off. I would be more concerned about the DI system as those parts are expensive! On the other hand they are getting better all the time and I'm sure the 5.0 will be DI sooner rather than later so I'm hoping it's a reliable system.

1. You think all aluminum, DOHC, COP ignition is new technology? Really? I'm not even sure where to start with that one. It's not new!
2. Someone's always gotta bring in the turbo argument. Oh no the turbos are gonna blow?!?!?!? Fact is, if you knew ANYTHING about turbos, you would know they are extremely reliable and can last hundreds of thousands of miles. A brand new turbo from Ford costs about $600 bucks and you can have ANY turbo rebuilt completely at any turbo shop for under $500. That's a chance I will happily take.
3. See what a breeze the 5.0 will be to remove? You do realize the EB has 2 LESS cylinders and has more room in the engine bay to workaround right? And if you have ever taken a motor out of any vehicle, having more room up front (i.e. fewer cylinders) with something that fits between the frame rails backed by the same transmission is actually going to be EASIER to take out if that happens. However, you seem to think the EB will throw its turbos on the ground and blow the heads through the hood before it hits 100k so logic clearly escapes you in that regard.
Both are fantastic engines and both will last plenty long and be very durable and reliable for years to come. Each of them has reasons they are better than the other and both appeal to different folks. But to say one will blow up and turbos will will go and engine will go is just a freakin joke. Come on.

Doing an engine swap on a 5.0 is so easy a caveman can do it.

LOL! Yeah, I'll be having bad dreams about those, especially when Boss5.0 just ran a 13.09 1/4-mile time with Mustang shorties, CAI and exhaust and a tune.
I just hope they don't come after me in my dreams. The dragstrip will be the place they can find me
Any takers in Florida wanna. meet up on Sunday March 4th at Bithlo? Here's a vid link of my run in 4WD ... lol!!! I had toolbox loaded, tailgate, and spare wheel/tire. Hemi was missing these items and was a 2WD. Bring on the eco's boys.
