Exhaust Manifold studs have a tendency to back out if not installed first, then gaskets, manifold and nuts. They usually walk out with the nuts grown onto them. When you look at the carbon track it shows the extreme heat of the manifold area glowing very red and weight of the turbo just moved/warped the exhaust manifold away from the head as the gasket burned and that last stud moved out when it cools down. I can see why the Engineers moved the manifold to part of its head in the 2.7L. If you have a condition of extreme heat you have this area of manifold blow out/warping.

The way ford has been using the 5 d's of dodgeball as their slogan for the ecoboost platform I'm sure they would find a way to not cover it.

The turbo itself is bolted directly to the block so there SHOULD be no turbo weight on the manifold.

Thank you so much for posting this. Mine has developed the same problem. It is intermittent and usually happens after it has been parked after a few minutes. In fact it happened tonight. I thought perhaps it was just something I hadn't noticed before. I'm taking mine to the dealer for the rear window replacement for a defective rear defroster (who in the hell engineers that problem). I'm going to have them check it out. Thanks again!

I wish I would have really looked after I got the manifold and turbo back on to see if it could be seen easily where the leak was. But, if you can pull the inner fender well back far enough or have them remove it, you may be able to see evidence "soot" by the back port of the driver side head without needing to pull all the parts off.

Well, I finally fixed the problem. I traded for a 2014 XLT Off Road with the max tow package in Sunset color. There were just too many nagging issues and I had a feeling more would creep up. I did get the defective rear window replaced under extended warranty. They also finally fixed the door speaker issue by replacing (as I suspected all along) the original wiring harness. I could not get the manifold issue to repeat on demand, so I didn't even mention it. It also still had an intermittent turbo boost control problem that would put it in limp mode from time to time. Of course no one trouble shoots anymore. Even when I recorded the trouble code in Torque App and presented it to them it was always the same "we can't duplicate it" crap. And there was no stored code because it reset by the time I got it in to the service shop. So, to hell with it. Got a fair trade, incentives, and other discounts. I figure the 2014 has most bugs worked out. We'll see. I love the F150.

Hey Kittrel, was it just the drivers side? I am having the same chirping when you push the pedal hard in colder temps.

Did you inspect the passenger side?

Mine sounds like it is coming from the drivers side too.

Once the weather warms up in a couple of weeks I am going to pull the inner fender and have a good peek in there to see if I can see any Carbon soot build up and or stick a feeler gauge between the gasket and manifold.

How much time did it take you to do the repair and was it a messy job removing the oil and coolant lines?

I just experienced the same issue. Confirmed exhaust manifold leak. Dealer covered it under my Premium CARE ESP. Link to my story --> https://www.f150forum.com/f38/ecoboo...ration-393112/

That's the exact noise mine makes on what sounds like the drivers side. Didn't notice it thru warm summer but it's been colder here lately and starting to notice it again if I goose the throttle when cold.
