Default Regular vs. premium gas for Ecoboost

I know I have seen treads on this question but coming up dry on the search. Can someone point me in the right direction.

Not sure what to burn when up in the mountains verses down on the flats, towing verses empty, etc.

I put regular in mine but about 5 hours ago on my way to michigan from kansas city I applied some throttle to pass a semi all of a sudden my truck started to shutter and check engine light was flashing so I pulled off to the side of the road, shut my truck off, and restarted it. Ran fine the rest of the way 280 miles. So I'm thinking it was a miss fire so when I got to michigan I put 93 in to see if it will make a difference. Other than that im taking it to the dealer Monday.

You must have got some bad gas..... 87 is all that is required in these trucks.

Your Ford will run fine on 87 Octane. I don't think I'd run the knock-o-special 85 octane stuff though.

Premium can make more power, ever since EEC-IV, but it's not like your truck is underpowered.

Well either way it still scared me that I was gunna be stranded 300 miles away from home. But I'll keep y'all updated on what the dealer says on Monday.

The manual suggests premium for heavy stuff (towing, mountains etc)
But you don't need to switch back and forth. Maybe just run mid grade all the time?

Ya it's probably a injector or just needing a PCM update. Which I hope it can wait till I get back to Kansas city next week.

Last one I just read refers to a bad cat.
I wonder if this soot thing has any relation to the problems.
Can soot plug the cat converters?
