Default Pre-trip bug removal

Guys/Gals,,

I re-searched this issue, only to find topics on bug removal...

I'm about to leave Denver Colorado going to Cape Breton, Novia Scotia, in the next couple of months(going home). Six thousand round trip...
I've done this trip several times in the past ten years, for family matters...
I've done these trips in a '97 F-250 Power Stroke and a '08 Sport Trac, with chrome mirrors and grilles.
My '11, F150 has plastic black plastic mirrors..
In the past, I've put a number of coats of wax on the chrome on the leading edges of the grilles and mirrors and bug screen, I've used Pam on one trip, but it turned into a glue type stuff, which turned my headlights yellow.......

ANY IDEAS ??????????

Is there a pre-trip treatment....

Stop at a couple of car washes and hose it off. Cheap and no chemicals. BTW, it's February, probably not going to have bug problems. Now salt is a different matter.

Yeah, you shouldn't spray Pam on your headlights.
You're better off buying 3M(or other manufacturers) clear protective vinyl for 'em.
You can also get it for all the leading edges(hood, fenders, f-bumper, valance etc.) on your truck. In that form it's called a 'Clear Bra', and you'll find a bunch of options via Google.
I used to spray my MX bike's inner fenders, front down-tube(s), spokes, and inner rad shrouds with WD-40 before I moto'd it, so the dried mud wouldn't stick to the individual parts, and would come off MUCH easier when I sprayed it down.
Problem you have is you're gonna be driving for 3,000 miles(?), and doing so through prolly some pretty gnarly weather. 'Light-duty' sprays like the aforementioned WD-40 would likely get blasted and/or frozen off early into the trip.
I personally can't think of anything better than what you used the first time....Wax. Obviously just make sure you don't leave it caked on.

Put a fresh coat of wax/sealant on before the trip. You could periodically wash the bugs off with dryer sheets with a bucket of water. Work very well in getting the little buggers off.

Another Caper. What part of the island are you from?

Never heard of the dryer sheet thing. You just dip in water and scrub?

Here is one of the best protectors you can put on your vehicle pre trip.

It takes a little effort to get it back off from what I understand, but it's supposed to work awesome.
