I just wonder why they had to kill so much power, yet they are putting it into a MUCH bigger/heavier vehicle? Could they not have kept the hp range up, as well as the torque and just shifted the power band down further in the RPM, without losing 50hp?
It likely has all to do with the cam profile they chose but for the most part it would be hard for them to bring the power band down a little without losing some peak HP at the higher rpms... Which is exactly what has happened.

In other words... sure you could have that 50hp on top but you'd likely be a bigger dog off the line.

I will say I have smoked a few EBs off the line so far because the driver doesn't compensate for turbo spool.

I agree... My truck at a dead idle is a turd off the line... Though even only breaking up to 1000rpms and its a different animal.

I LOVE my 5.0L!!!

I turned down the ecoboost cause it was more money, almost no difference in gas mileage and definitely doesn't have the great snarl of that V8! Plus I don't need all that torque.

The ecoboost may be a little faster of the line, but park both trucks (5.0 & EB) side by side, close your eyes, rev both of them up and see what one makes you drool first

I agree they are both great engines!! I compared bottom dollar price with both engines in same truck and I got the 5.0 for about $3000 lower. My dealer has a lot more 5.0 and would deal more on them plus rebate was better plus $750 lower on MSRP. I am very happy with 5.0 and I am sure I would be with the ECO also but with the extra $3000 in my pocket I know I made the right decision.

5.0 is a great engine. I love how all u guy talk about racing a truck when is not really built for racing its more built for off road and towing but it's whatever you guys like to do. I'll leave the racing for my mustang and my big baby 5.0 f150 for everything else.

Ps the only ill be happy with that has turbos is a f250/2500 Cummings

Also can't wait for that 2013 Shelby )))) sexyyyyy

Keep it going guys! Although I LOVE how after all the whiney pissing matches that all the other threads turn into that we get a thread to really go at it and we all have an intelligent and meaningful conversation about the things we like about the trucks that we put our money on! That's what it's all about! I LOVE my eco but I could never blame anyone for choosing a 5.0 because that is truly one of the sexiest sounding motors I've EVER heard and the Eco was actually a tough sell on me because of that. Would I change my choice, HELL NO but I would only expect the same from someone that drove both like me and choose the 5.0. They are two hellaciously nice motors in some of the most bad *** trucks that have ever been made!
Carry on fellas!
Funny how that works. I think because the title is inviting everyone to talk trash. The "trolls" can't have any fun with that. They just want to ruin other posts with it.

I must admit it, I went to the dealer to buy a 5.0, love the sound and was excited that Ford was producing it again. I owned a 5.0 Mustang back in 1998. Best engine ever. The dealer I went to was giving me the run around. So I continued to search. Found a dealer with an Ecoboost, didn't plan on buying an Ecoboost at all. After I drove it, I was impressed. Went home and started researching the Eco. Then I had a tough decision on my hands, Eco or 5.0 ? I am a tried and true V8 fan !! But, I went with the Ecoboost. I will admit, it is scary. I have no idea what the future holds for me. New technology can be scary. So far, I love the truck. Now let's see how well it holds together !!
