new TSB 13-8-1

Well Gents, I just picked up my truck after TSB 13-8-1. Previously, I did not have any codes active but there were only some #6 misfires in history. The catalytic converter was not replaced. The original CAC is an "AD" version. The TSB called out to remove the upper deflector plate and install a deflector onto the lower 7 tubes. The service manager said that the "AD" CAC with the lower deflector is the new "AE" CAC and it did not need to be replaced. There was a new ECM program installed.
I will wait a few days for final judgement but initial feeling is that there is a notable reduction in power both in light acceleration and a full roll on/kick down passing acceleration. Fuel economy seems the same or slightly less than before based on a 70 MPH cruise for the same 5 mile stretch of road. Again these are initial feelings. Variables to take into account are "adaptive learning", temperature, humidity, barometric pressure. I havent havent done a full 0-60 evaluation yet (traffic) but before at full throttle, the truck would roll out to about 10 MPH when the turbo's spooled up both tires easily broke traction. I havent tried that yet. As I said eariler, I will see what the weekend brings.

Still runs like **** an idel's rough fuel eco seemed the same 13.8 driving 40 miles to the dealership an same on return. Try at youre own risk gentlemen another halfass bandaid fix by some so called exspert's.

chlngfyo2........ My idle has actually improved but last month I re-gapped the OEM plugs to .031. When the truck was delivered new it was missing badly. I brought it back and the dealer said that it was normal for this motor and they all did it. When I got home I pulled the plugs and found them gapped .035-.039. Tomorrow I plan to pull the plugs and do a read. Before this calibration the plugs indicated being rich. They were consistently colored a very dark toast.

Just to let all interested know. The PCM is flashed with new parameters with this TSB. As expected both power and economy suffer. The bad news for me is that I cannot reflash a tune using my SCT Livewire 5015, I get a "Unrecognized vehicle" with a code following. I have contacted SCT and they have confirmed that they currently do not support the latest FMOCO flash that is installed with 13-8-1. They claim that it could take two weeks to a month
Have a great day

I had the misfire issue last Saturday towing my trailer. Cool humid morning and after an hour or so on cruising on the highway there was a tight ramp to connect to another highway with a very short ramp to accelerate a merge. I thought the conditions were right for the issue, and sure enough as I aggressively pressed the accelerator peddle, the engine shifted into second gear and started misfiring and shaking violently. Couldn't' get up to speed, but luckily traffic was able to avoid me. It cleared up by the next exit, and went from a flashing MIL to steady MIL. Took it in today to get the codes read and it is the P0304-P0306. The dealer didn't have parts in so they returned the truck to me with the MIL still on. Trying to decide if I want the TSB work completed or just the MIL reset. If this isn't a proven fix, I'll just keep the truck as is. Sucks to have a truck misfiring with less than 10K miles on it.

This should probably be in the "Ford Customer Service" topic but it needs to be said right here. Ashley and the FOMOCO customer Service Team have been outstanding in helping me with this issue. While the problem has not been resolved, I believe the issues are with Tech Engineering in reaching resolution and not C/S. They have reached out to me on at least four occasions to coordinate the "repair" or following up on my results. I am confident that the pursuit for the correction of the real problem is in the works. Thank you from me to Ashley and the FOMOCO customer service team.
