I took mine in for having a few short ticks on hot startup they did tsb 11-7-1 and it didn't do anything, and we never could get it fixed. A few days ago I used the remote start after the engine was warm and it was ticking until I turned the key in the ignition. Not sure what to do at this point but it's starting to get a little frustrating

Sorry it took so long to reply guys. When my truck first started making the noise i only noticed it when i used the remote start and i thought for sure that had something to do with it. Well after the first dealer telling me there was nothing wrong and i started to experiment with the truck myself i found it had nothing to do with the remote start. When you use the remote start function it makes the truck idle a little higher than when you just put the key in and start it. I think mine idles at 1000rpm with the remote and around 800 rpm with the key start. It seemed like if you started it with the remote it would make noise until you put the key in and turned it one click then the noise would almost always go away. What was happening was the rpms were dropping and noise would stop, but i figured out after you turned the key forward and the noise stops if you bring the rpms back up to 1000 rpm or so the noise just came back. I took my truck to the dealer and they replaced the driver side primary chain tensioner(t.s.b). I have started the truck cold and warm probably 30 times since its been fixed with no noise issues. In my case the noise was coming down the exhaust tubes and making it sound like it was between the transmission and engine. From all the post i read they were saying it comes from the front of the engine but not in my case. Also when i took the truck to both dealerships i explained i thought it was the chain tensioner they looked at me like i was stupid and said the noise def wasnt from the engine and the other one told me these new engines are just noisey. No dealer within an hour from me had run into this yet. My other concern was this problem is so new i dont know if there is a new tensioner out for this problem or if they just get another one off the shelf and hope for the best. Sorry for writing a book but i feel your pain. This is my first new truck and i was very very dissapointed in the first dealer and ford in general. I took my truck to a different dealer talked to a ford rep and it was amazing how they took care of me. Good luck guys.

During remote start the engine runs higher to allow for a quicker warm up. I checked my rpms and my truck idles at 500 but with remote start its at 1000. Thanks for posting that video, I'll be watching out for that one!

Well mine has been at the dealer for two days now. They said it was the chain tensioner and other parts around that. I will include more info when they are done with it. They are having to order updated parts I believe is what he said.

Also, 2200 miles on it and the seat has unraveled -_- , apparently they ate ordering a new seat cover. Still love it though lol.

Anymore info on ur truck. Did they fix it. I have a 5.0 as well February 2011 build date. I'm afraid to put remote start in for this reason. And hoping I don't have a tensioner problem later down the road.

Talked to the dealership more tonight. They said there is a TSB for the chain tensioner on the 5.0s. They ordered updated parts and were installing them today probably get it back tomorrow. The question I am wondering though was the problem always there and the remote start made it apparent or did the remote start make the obviously flawed part break in the first place.

My seat will be a week or two however.

In my case i dont think the remote start had anything to do with the chain tensioner problem. It just made it easier to hear because of the engine running at a higher rpm when started with the remote. My truck would only make the noise around 1000 rpm which happened to be the same rpm it ran when started with the remote. Good luck with your trucks. Once they did the tsb on mine i have had no noise again.

I actually noticed a ticking on my 6.2 when remote started as well. Does this TSB cover the 6.2? Not a big deal really just a bit annoying when walking up to it.
