new 5.0 rattle/ticking when started with remote start only
Well i have noticed im getting a rattle from around the starter, bellhousing area. I only get it when the truck is warm and restarted with the remote starter. I actually sounds very similar to the primary chain tensioner noise i seen in the video posted on here, but its not coming from the engine. As soon as you put the key in it and turn one click foward like your gonna drive it the noise goes away? If you start the engine warm with the key there is no noise. Only when started with remote. Seems to be getting worse as the miles add up. Anyone run into this problem yet? Its a 2011 5.0 s crew with 2300 miles on it. The dealer seems like they dont even know where to start.

After further investigation my truck is making the noise with the key start also. I thought it was just making the noise using the remote only but its all the time now when started now. But it does seem less likely when i use the key vs the remote.

I was going to say maybe the remote start has some sort of glitch where it is keeping the starter engaged even after being started. But since its also doing it with the key now that may not be the case.

it could also be a starter solenoid issue

Well i dropped it off at the second different dealer today to see what they come up with. But as usual they try to tell you its normal. My truck didnt make this noise when it was new and its only getting worse, but they say the variable cam timing engines emit sounds through the exhaust. It is def not normal. It sounds just like the primary chain tensioner problem people are having but its coming from the driver side between the engine and trans area. Its not a constant sound its very irratic and inconsistant. Its making the sound on all warm starts once the engine is reved to 1000 rpm. When it just idles no noise. I have a video of it on my camera but cant get it to load. I think its to big

Well the dealer did the primary chain tensioner fix. I have only driven the truck once since i got it back but it didnt make the noise on the warm re start. I have posted a video of the noise on you tube if anyone thinks they are getting the noise or just wants to hear it. Sorry for the angle of the video i was on a creeper under the truck trying to figure out where the noise was coming from.

I saw you replied on another thread saying that it was indeed the chain tensioner. Can you give an update on it? I have the same exact sound that primarily only happens with the remote start activated. Did they say why yours was happening with the remote start?
Going to take mine in this weekend and would love to give them any info that would help them, sounded like they had never heard of the problem when I first talked to the dealership.
