Looking for quality and qualified answer to 3 questions:

1) Does Castrol Syntec Edge oil void the Ford warranty on the motor?

2) Is this better worse or no effect on the EcoBoost

3) Can changing your own oil and filter void you motor warranty with Ford

Just have your dealer change your oil. I am changing mine with a Fram Ultra filter and Mobile 1 at 2000 miles.

Fram? I would change that to a wix or a motocraft. Thise are some of the worst filters out there.

2k miles is super early too. 5k miles on that oil would be fine. Unless you have a fuel leak and it's getting diluted.

As long as you cage it according to the manual with oil that meets or exceeds their specs, your fine. Keep all receipts and document everything.

29.95 gets you an oil change and a tire rotation at the dealership.

Actually, the Fram Ultra is one of the best. I don't like the cheaper Fram either.

This is the first change and I have about 300 miles towing. The truck should be broken in by then and I like running full synthetic as I tow heavy loads.

I've never heard anyone saying good about fram. Ever. I see your truck is a 2017. Just a fyi this is the older 09-14 forum.

Doing your own oil changes won't void your warranty, just make sure you stick with the oil weight recommended in your manual.

As far as Fram, they got a bad rap 10 or so years ago. I think their quality was already suffering, then a supposed Fram employee did a write-up online about their crappy construction and poor quality control and that's when their name really went downhill. Apparently their more expensive filters are pretty good now, but I'd still avoid their cheap stuff. Companies do change over time, there was a time when I put Purolator Pure One filters in everything I owned but I’m not sure they’re all that great anymore. Now I run WIX in everything, although I wouldn’t be opposed to Motocraft for my truck.

You don't have to remove the skid plate -- it can just get a little messy. Make sure you've got some cardboard down or something.

It can be a hassle -- but it saves you a lot of money and you know it's done right.

Y'all must have some pretty good dealers -- I doubt I could take my truck in and have my oil changed for any less than $85 with FoMoCo conventional...
