Need help identifying an oil leak and how to fix
 

Hey guys. While changing my plugs I found a class 1 oil leak (wet surface) on the top of my driver side valve cover. The leak is coming from what appears to be the base of a part I am not familiar with. Can someone ID it and let me know how to fix the leak? I found a picture online of the area and circled where the leak is coming from.

Looks like the High Pressure Fuel Pump.

Yup, that's the high pressure fuel pump.

Okay. Well it seems to be leaking oil at the bottom where it attaches to the valve cover. Is there an o-ring on the underside?

Yes, there is an O-Ring that seals it in the valve cover.

Okay. Is there enough play that I can remove the 2 bolts attaching it to the VC and replace the o ring? Or do I need to unhook the lines? If I need to unhook the lines, Any issues doing so?

I found this old thread and the member had to remove the HPFP to replace the oring. My only question is about the fuel line. He mentions a fuel line wrench. I am not familiar with what he is talking about. Any help there?

You technically don't need the fuel line wrench. It just limits the chances of slipping and rounding it off. I've never had a problem just using a regular wrench of the correct size. Just unplug the electrical connector first, undo the fuel line with the correct size wrench, then undo to two bolts and pull it out. Replace O-Ring, reverse installation. Shouldn't be more than 20 minutes.

Mine was leaking when my truck had maybe 10k miles, replaced it under warranty. They were able to replace it in about 10 minutes. It is a very quick fix with the right tools.

All it takes is a 17mm wrench for the high pressure side line on the fuel pump and then the low pressure just unclips - HAVE A RAG UNDER THE LINES TO CATCH THE SPILLED FUEL. Unplug the wiring harness then it's just the 2 10mm bolts holding on the pump. Pull up evenly to avoid binding and it should just pull right out. Use a pick tool or something like it to get the old O-ring off. Lube new o-ring lightly with oil on your finger and install onto the pump. Make sure everything is clean and there is no debris before reinstalling the o-ring and the pump. Install is reverse.
