Hello All,
First off not my first board so I did search and there are truely a lot of post regarding exhaust so why am I creating another one. Well they all seem to compare replacing just the muffler and replacing the cat back. I am not interested in a cat back due to cost and no hp increase based on reading.

SO what are yall thoughts on the best replacement muffler. I am looking for quite both in and out of the truck but with more sound. I have considered the
Magnaflow 12279 it is 3" all the way thru and has a 24 inch body
and the Borla XR-1
40944MufflerCenter/CenterOval3"16" x 4.5" x 7.88"
(does anyone have this everything I find is the borla cat back)
I am also considering the Flowmaster but will probably go another way this time since I have alway used them and want to try something different.

I will keep the existing resinator to give me the ability to remove if its to quite.
So what do yall think. Are these going to be too loud, too quite.
I like a deep tone with no drone that will not wake the neighbors will both acomplish this?

i have the 5.0 with the borla 40944 with resonator still in place. Its has a nice tone and is loud at WOT. But im going to be changing to the round 5"x15" xr1 with no resonator as i want mine louder now and it seems like the round doesnt give off much of a rasp at all. oh also with my current set up, no drone

I first did a Magnaflow muffle with stock pipe and left the resonator. Wasn't that bad and sounded rather nice actually to some (my friends) especially for a daily driver. But I want more magnaflow true duals now, they are not so quite at all and do have some drone. With muffle swap no real noise at idle, quiet at slow accel. and decently loud at wide open throttle. Nothing like true duals, but nice.

I went with the Dynomax VT 3" center in & 3" center out. Check out the thread below with pics and videos. I ended up taking out the resonator because I thought the sound was too close to stock. I like it a lot better without the resonator. My wife on the other hand....

hostile tell me more about the borla you have does it sound raspy in the oval?
do you have any sound clips. You are changing to make it louder but the case size is only 1 inch different why?

I actually deleted my muffler and left only the resonator. I threw my exhaust out to the side in front of the rear tires on the passenger side, basically the same way the Lightnings have it. It sounds really good.

Ok about to pull the trigger. Magnaflow is less by 20 dollar not much.

No rasp at all, thats why i kept the resy on. But i want louder and i want borla, so the only way to go for me is to take the resy out. But from what ive seen with the 5" round is that the rasp is pretty much gone and if its there not really as noticeable. I cant stand rasp at all. So for some reason i think the 5" round must take that away, but is damn nice sounding, there is a clip on youtube and his truck sounds awesome.
