Max Towing Question

Yeah misunderstood. I think ford way bs'd it with the 5.4 at 11300. I also think that ford low balled the 5.0 to help eb sales. For short trips I wouldnt hesitate to pull any weight with any of the '11 engines.

I agree...30ft-lb more = 2100lbs? I don't think so.

I've thought of that, actually I'd PREFER to do that because as you mentioned I would have easier use of the bed when not towing.
But I was thinking that it would be less desireable to use the adapter and or would mess with the weight distrobution.
Does the towing capacity stay the same when towing a 5th wheel vs tow behind? Just tow's easier? Or does it change because it's putting more weight in the bed vs behind the truck?
P.S. As you mentioned the 1/2 ton trucks having the same frames as the 3/4 ton trucks, why then do you suggest not using a 5th wheel in a 1/2 ton?
Thanks,

Bumper pull versus in the bed, you can pull more in the bed, but with a weight distributing hitch there isn't need for air bags, or spring assist of any kind. There is less force on the springs over the axle, but off the bumper your rotational torque increases which is what causes the springs to compress more for whatever reason.

I never pulled that much with with a 5.4. But did pull almost 11000 with the 5.0.
When I was shopping my dad was going to keep his super duty if I got a 5.4 but after pulling some light loads with the 5.0 we knew he could sell his. After the heavy pull he even said the 5.0 pulled better than his super duty. And way better mpg to boot. During my heavy tow my uncle pulled a slightly heavier trailer with his v 10 and I could have run away from him if I wanted to.

Boy, the post has taken some turns.
Just so everyone understands. The trailer is already at it's destination and used as our lake house for boating weekends. Unless something needs to be fixed, it will remain on site for the next 24 months. We use the camper almost every weekend from May - September, but sports takes over from Oct - April.
The next trip of any distance will be in the fall of 2013.
So my diesel is currently to expensive to own as a daily driver and I would like to downgrade to something that will pull the weight legally. For those 1-2 trips a year, I want to make sure the Eco Boost will do that job for 200-500 miles.
I am looking specifically at a '11 Supercrew 4x4, 3.5 EB, 3.73, 6.5' bed, Lariat (I want 40/20/60 front leather seats), Max tow package, Lariat Plus Package and Lariat Chrome package.
It sounds like I can tow my camper with this setup once or twice a year and reap +16 MPG the rest of the time.

Zap - Current truck is 2010 F250 CC 6.4l 4x4 Lariat with 3.55.
Great truck if I was going to haul more frequently and that was the intent when we bought it... then our towing preference changed when we found a season site next to the lake we boat at. That's life
