Looking for best Ecoboost/Turbo Specialist in Mass or Northeast?
My 2011 is giving me fits, I have been struggling with a variety of issues, finally took it to the local Ford dealer and they were clueless on all counts...
I had what I thought was an engine shudder, went through all the plugs/coils, looked for vacuum leaks etc. Dealer said they couldn't replicate it and even test drove with a laptop. I asked about the tranny and they said it was fine and recommended against changing the oil at 150K. I did a Tranny oil change and flush, shudder instantly gone!
There was a noise from the right turbo under load, dealer said it needed to be replaced, turned out it was the manifold gasket, I put in a turbo rebuild kit while I was at it, total cost was $250 in parts, dealer wanted $2500 to replace the Turbo!
I still have a surging/whoosh from the DS Turbo, I have pressure and vacuum tested all the lines, checked the BOV for damage, replaced the solenoids and it is still there. I know the dealer is just going to say the Turbo needs to be replaced. I have read several other threads about dealers replacing turbos for this issue and it didn't solve the problem, turned out to be a sensor or a wire. ( I wouldn't care if it was under warrantee!)
If it needs to be replaced fine, I can do it myself for under a grand with all the parts but I would hate to spend that money and another 10 hrs and still have the problem!
I need a technician that knows these systems inside and out, I am in central MA but will travel to find the best tech out there!
Recommendations?

Just to be clear, you replaced the manifold gasket and rebuilt the turbo on the PASSENGER side and are still experiencing a whooshing noise from the DRIVER SIDE?
I would double check the manifold and gasket on the driver side to be sure it's not leaking. It has been know and a common problem that the exhaust manifolds warp and need replacement. Replacing just the gasket won't permanently fix the problem and it will come back quickly.

Totally different noise on the drivers side than I was experiencing on the passenger side. Passenger side was a high pitch squeal when hard on the gas, i originally thought it was a belt slipping but it was the gasket leaking. (replaced the manifold too, warped 1/8"!)
If I do need to take the DS turbo off I will definitely replace the manifold/gasket regardless.
I still believe this is a control issue, sounds like either the DS waste gate or BOV is cycling and dumping boost, I just don't know which one or why.
Again, looking for recommendations on a top notch tech who is familiar with these. The dealer I went to basically saw nothing on his laptop and immediately defaulted to replace the turbos.....

I may have found the issue, hopefully someone can chime in.
I took a pair of pliers and tried moving the actual wastegate arm on both turbos. On the PS I can feel the spring resistance of the actuator plus the movement of the valve itself, when you let go you can hear the wastegate closing inside the turbo.
On the DS all I feel is the spring in the actuator, I don't hear or feel anything moving inside the turbo, when I let go you hear the actuator topping out on the spring but no noise inside the turbo. Plus the position of the arms is substantially different on the two turbos.
It seems like the shaft broke or somehow the wastegate valve disconnected inside.
Has anyone seen this with a failed turbo?
