Great write up Sluggo.
I have been torn between tuners for the last couple weeks (ordering a vehicle and having to wait is the worst... already have boxes waiting for the trucks arrival on Monday). The more and more I think about it and read the reviews in here (especially now sluggo - - his needs and tuning ability is about same as mine which is great to hear) I know Rick won't disappoint. I just wish I knew the stragtegy code RIGHT NOW so I can order his tuner.
Biggest decision is 87 performance or tow tune so I don't have to email back and forth for tunes.. if they are close enough I might just do the tow tune... AHHHH wish it was in the driveway so I could just mess with both now!!! haha

They are pretty close. Bunch of guys run 87 tow as their daily driver whether towing or not. And I have a feeling very soon the device will be holding two custom tunes. Rick said process is in the works.

Yeah, I run the tow tune all the time, even on a no-tow 1800 mile trip. I've heard it has over 90% of the performance tune and a tune install is scary enough (read Sluggo's great review), that I don't think I would want to risk switching back and forth, except to restore stock for a trip to the dealer. My fuel mileage is the same great mileage I've had since the weather got warm, but the performance makes me smile and sometimes even startles me. I pushed the pedal halfway while making a tight merge in town, smoked the tires and quickly let off.

My 2012 is only 4 months old and has no issues so I am not sure what differences the AML5 will have. Also ordered my AFE Stage 2 intake this week directly from Steve at AFE who said it will be shipped next Friday. My stomach still hurts from dropping close to a $1000 in a matter of days! But now I will be done and have everything I want. My Solo 4" exhaust is already installed.

I'd like to thank everyone for their replies!
Most customers claim 1.5-2 mpg gains with all of our tunes.
Thank you for the great write-up!
As jcain mentioned, it is a VIN locked unit, so once you flash a truck, it is "married" to that truck.

Well boys and girls finally got around to installing my 87 octane tune today. Also installed my AFE Stage 2 intake and for my thoughts and complete review on that please visit the AFE thead located here:
Performance: I should note that I had about 1/4 tank of gas left in the truck at this time and it was 93 octane. I doubt that made any huge improvements but since then I have topped off the tank with 87 to test it out at that octane. Around the subdivsion at 20-25mph speeds truck ran perfect just as prior with no changes in anything..Then got her on the open road and began to press that pedal down!! Took it easy at first but immediately noticed the response increase at very partial throttle..Much more response than before..I was already smiling!! Then got on it and mashed it and the truck absolutely came to life!! The shifts were firm and precise, response incredible, and all around felt great..Up to 70 mph in blink of an eye and let off pedal, came down to 50 and set cruise control..Completely back to normal, nice steady cruise, perfect daily driver..Tooled around at normal speeds from 30-40-45-50 and up...Felt perfect.. Then lets say that I miraculously found my way down to open non traffic roads in ummmm Mexico!! Yeah that's it Mexico.. Turned left from a stop sign onto the open road, feathered that pedal down slowly further and further as the truck kept pulling away..Looked down and was at 110mph!! No joke 110 and was smooth as butter..Truck was hanging in 3rd gear during the majority of this climb in speed and then at 110 I noticed it was in 4th..Let off because my *** was clenched enough at this point..Truck creeped down in speed and went into 6th gear..Turned cruise back on when i hit 55mph and continued on my merry way..
Overall: I am by no means a "car guy" or claim to be an expert in engines, etc...I am an average Joe who can tinker with a car and install plenty of stuff on my own and do average maintenance by myself. I don't own a dyno or plan on even going to one because I simply know this truck has waaaaaay more ***** now than stock.. I didn't buy this tune from Livernois simply for "speed" but because I know Ford left more to be had with this truck. I applaud Rick and the Livernois crew for all of their research and development with Ecoboost tunes and it clearly shows they are at the top of the pack. Guys can whine and complain about the price or fact that at this time the device only holds one custom tune but to each his own and this tune fits me perfect for my wants and needs. The device holding only one custom tune is a mute point to me. Simple enough to email Rick for new one, download it onto the device and then install it into the truck. And for the price I have access to all the tunes they currently make and whatever they may come up with in the future. Thanks Rick for all of your input into this thread and the great customer service.. If anyone has any questions let me know.. I will try to drive conservatively here in the near future because I really want to see how the combo of this tune, my intake, and exhaust do as far as MPG go..I will post those numbers up in the near future once I get some more miles under my belt..

Dumb question, but im going to ask it anyways.
I tend to keep vehicles for a long time, had my last for 12 years and only got rid of it due to an expanding family, so I plan on keeping this truck for awhile.
Do tuners affect the longevity of a vehicle? Does the increased HP and TQ come at a price?
Has anyone had a vehicle tuned and left it that way for 10 years or more with premature wear issues?
