Take it out on the Interstate, run it 72+ and it is 19.9 all day all week all month forever. The truck is averaging 20 MPG on the Cluster since new. The only special thing I do is keep the tires inflated to their load PSI of 39 PSI. When I enter the HEC test my cluster state this. My computation trip meter states 20.1 Miles per gallon for the last 9000 miles. I now have 22,000 miles on my F150. Very happy with the little 302 HP motor. It only gets pure synthetic motor oil also every 5,000 Miles oil changes. The one peculiar thing I have noticed about E85 is its pull, it seems to pull very nicely with good mileage noticed on the meter when level or down hill slightly, with a decrease uphill moreso. That extra pull seems to add up on that drive. It is quite noticeable, the torque I mean. When I go in the opposite direction on the highway I notice the same affect. Torque seems to increase. Don't know if it is the load I am hauling, the fact I'm trailer tow selecton for the trans with the load I haul or what, but it is real and seems to get better with mileage on the truck adding up. It likes E85 a lot.
Was reading some old posts in this thread... I don't know if this guy is BSing or not, but it's actually more plausible than it sounds. In winter, E85 is actually an E70 blend sold as E85. Combine that with a gallon or two of regular gasoline left in the tank (I'm guessing the guy didn't drain the tank).. and you're close to E60 or so. Careful highway driving could pull 20-21 out of that.

For the first time since getting my F150, I have used it for getting to and from work, My drive consists of mostly 45-70mph, about (60/40 city/highway), average trip, 30kms.

The latest tank average was 1130 kms (706 miles), and the fill took 130liters (35 gallons) for a tank average of 11.5LHK (20mpg). I couldn't squeeze better than 17mpg HIGHWAY, out of my Tacoma TRD V6 in the 2 years I owned it.

I know the detractors will say that is not that great, but I drive moderate (10 over posted), much of the time, and then full throttle just for fun. This tank would have had at least 30 full throttle 7000rpm shifts, and numerous heavy throttle incidents to pass or listen to the intake.

To me, this is astonishingly good mileage. I couldn't be happier.

I get about 22-24 mpg on the highway (unless there's a traffic jam of course). There are no hills where I drive, and I tend to baby the truck half the times, but those are still great mpg averages for me.

Easy to get over 20mpg. Not for a tank average with 30+ trips though. Instantaneous reading are very nebulous.

Turned 12,000 miles this afternoon and I have no complaints about the 3.7.

Compared to the Eco, 5.0, or even 5.4 it has a little less oomph, but for a full size truck it gets great mileage! If you are not going to be doing a lot of heavy towing, it is definitely the way to go.

I get 17-18 in the city or 20-21 if I go 75-80 mph on the highway.

But going through the mountains at ~60 mph on the highway is where it does best! I averaged 24.3 MPG over 110 miles with 3 people, full truck toolbox, and a bunch of gear in the bed!

Default 3.7 XL standard cab

Passing 6,000 miles now, had the truck about 5 weeks, Yeah I drive a lot.

Got all my Gear on now, Fiberglass topper, Bed Slide, Nerf Bars. My average cargo/junk weight counting everything including me is 1,000 Lbs
My estimate is 70% Interstate and 20% city driving and 10% back country two lane.
I run 39 psi front and 41 rear on the stock Hancook tires. I drive it easy, I don't drag race cars stop light to stop light and I do about
73 mph on the Super slab, always a tad under 2,000 rpm.
The average mpg the computer displays is acceptably accurate showing me 21.6 after a few tanks and holds week to week.
It did drop to 20.2 one week when I did more city driving, bout 50%

When I figure mpg's the old fashion way the 21.6 average swings from 21.2 to 21.8 so I think the onboard puter' is fine.
At about 3,800 miles I took out the factory blend oil and went with Full Synthetic Mobil 1 extended 5w 30w and that netted me an Instant and
consistent .6 mpg gain.

A thing that will drive you 3.7 Ltr owners Crazy:

The Oil Fill cap says 5w 30w,, The owners manual says 5w 20w and also states 5w 30w is for the Eco 3.5L...

I am running 5w 30w and with the .6 mpg gain I think for me In the hot Florida weather I made the right choice.
I will change the rated 16,000 mile oil at 10k Intervals and when things cool down this fall 5w 20w goes in.
Considering I will do 8 or 9 oil changes per year this will not be a problem.

I replaced a 2006 Toyota Tacoma 2.7 Ltr auto with 529,844 miles so to me I Have all the power I could ever want.

I was waiting for this engine and IMO it Is the Ranger killer..
Why build the ranger when you get these mpg's out of a F-150 ?

Good Job Ford XD

Thanks

I cracked 20.1MPG tank average and my commute is 40% city, 40% stop & go traffic and 20% wide open highway @ 75. Very happy.

I find my computer is very accurate. It said 20.0 on the readout and I got 20.1 hand calculated.

Last tank it said 19.5 and I hand calculated 19.7. Seems the computer is conservative mostly.

Found my tire pressure was at 34PSI cold this morning and I usually like it around 40 cold, so I had it inflated at Costco before my trip to San Marcos and back and I could feel the tires were smoother, did 24.6 MPG for the trip 95% highway @ 70mph.

I have had the 3.7 since March. It has plenty of power and since March I am averaging 19 mpg with city and hwy use. I do wish there was more for this engine, but it didn't stop me from adding a jet chip. It really woke the truck up. There are some great threads out there with sound for Flowmaster 40 series both in and outside the cab. There is also quite a bit in the cold air intake market. Roush makes a great looking (airaid rebrand) intake for the 3.7 and it definitely can do what it needs. Pulled a 20' steel car trailer like it wasn't there and just this weekend took the truck to a field to and ran it up a muddy 45 degree incline. I drive a lot and love it but envy the v8 guys just cause its a v8.

As a point of reference, I had a Z71 lifted 5 cylinder Colorado. This is a MUCH better ride and more room. Loving the switch from Chevy to Ford.
