Lets hear about those 3.7L's

Your experience is definitely not mine. I find the 3.7L has great off the line pickup for it's size. A lot better than the old 4.6L or even the 4.0 in my old Ranger. Now when I try to gun it on small entrance ramps along I-10 I do notice that it takes 1 second, downshifts, lurches backward and then launches forward. It's sort of fun at times, others it's annoying. But that's just when I need to get from 0-75 in like 600 feet.

I had a 2012 SCREW with a 3.7L. Plenty of power if you stick your foot in it. No problems on the freeway. A real pain in the *** driving around town in traffic. I drive for months without getting over 50mph, so city driving is the primary consideration. Idleing along at 15-20 and things open up a little, push on the accelerator a little and it just lugs the engine and doesn't speed up, push a little harder and it seems to slow down, push a little harder and it downshifts 3 gears and takes off. Also got about 14.5 MPG.
I traded it in for a 2013 5.0 L , and worth every penny of the beating I took on trade in. Driveability much improved and it seems to get a little better milage in town.

My father in law has the 5.0 and he does nothing but city driving and his stays around 14.5 mpg. He has the bigger tank also. My 3.7L Screw with the 26 gal. tank gets around 550 miles per tank. He has the 5.0L Screw with the 36 gal. tank and gets around 520 miles per tank. That's approximately $40 more at the pump plus approximately 30 miles less per tank. That's about $80-$120 a month and about $960-$1440 savings per year with my 3.7L. And my 3.7L has pulled everything I have put behind it with no problem. I love my 3.7L and Proud

Any of you guys with the 3.7 L V6 experiencing this problem I'm having? This is from another thread I opened:
"My 2012 F-150 XLT with a 3.7 L V6 option has a strange sound/acceleration hesitation issue. It has been doing it since I bought it, that I can remember at least (currently 10,500 or so miles and bought brand new); I first thought it was just the engine that wasn't powerful enough, but have now realized it only occurs sometimes. When this issue isn't occurring, the truck changes gears and accelerates smoothly. However, when I have been driving for a long time, the weather is too hot, and/or it is windy outside, I have realized it starts not only hesitating under acceleration (if I depress the pedal more, you can even feel the truck slightly shake a little and accelerate even less), but also making a different sound, almost as if the engine were trying harder (although accelerating less). If I press the pedal enough to make the truck downshift, the sound still occurs, but the acceleration gets slightly better. Also, I have realized that when I need to pass and the truck is having this issue, that if I press the accelerator sufficiently, it'll hesitate, but then all of a sudden just suddenly surge upwards to high RPM's (all while making the different sound). I hope I have explained myself clearly. I attached a link to a video, and you can hear the different sound/hesitation at 0:31, 0:41, and 0:50 (the video contains a portion which shows the truck accelerating normally for comparison purposes). Thanks for any help. I don't know much about cars, but I hope I can get some responses so I can explain to my dealer what the issue is because I'm at a loss as to how to even explain this.

The term "City Driving" covers a multitude of different driving conditions and means different things to different people. Looking at the EPA city milage test I find it hard to imagine what kind of city they have in mind.

I think a lot of problems can be solved with a good tuner.
I also hate the lethargic pick up/acceleration from dead stop. But when I step on the peddle on the highway, may it shoots out of a rocket, other than the odd shifting, staying in 2nd gear at 6k rpm, and I'm 40/50. Once you let off the gas, it shifts to the right gear right away. I'm sure its supposed to do that, when you a hauling or towing heavy, it would be a great advantage.
But again I feel like it can be solved with a simple tuner, which lets you choose are you looking for performance or towing?
Yeah I'm with you I don't know what they mean by city driving, if I go to philadelphia, and have a stop light every block, I know i'm not going to get 16, unless I let it coast from light to light. Even the in suburbs I'd be hard pressed to get 16, closer to 15.
Another thing, is hills. God I hate hills with this truck. I wish I was given hill assist or something better with the XLT scab. Going down it, is fun since i can use no gas and hit 50 mph, going up it I'll notice my mpg drop quickly or barley chug along.
I still love it, once I get a tuner, then I really see what this engine can do. Hopefully give me a little better pickup of the line.

I never really have an issue with it chugging up hills like I do with our explorer. I towed a camper around the hills of Wisconsin without feeling I needed more power.
I did need more gas though, got 8MPG lol

I used this pic from the mpg thread cause I didn't have one that shows the gears so sorry to who ever pic this is.
