Well we're at approx. the two thousand miles mark now. Cruising Hwy 70 into Denver, and up to Hwy. 80 into Wyoming. Speeds ranging from 65 - 75 mph. It had settled into 21.3 mpgs, and that's with some Colorado mountain driving. Still running strong without one hiccup to report.

Just did Denton to San Antonio averaging 23.4 MPG with about 200-300lbs of luggage in the box+ another 300lbs in the cab. Not bad.

I was wondering how these engines would perform with higher octane fuel and/or a K&N air filter.

Anyone run these?

It is nice to see these kind of mpgs out of the 3.7L. I know I would not hesitate to get the 3.7L if I did not have the kind towing requirements I do. Good job guys!

Call me cynical but I no longer believe ANY mpg claims from anyone, period.
There are an infinite amount of factors ranging from wind, hills, ambient temperature, weight, tires, tire pressure, driving style, computer differences, fuel blends, truck height, alignment issues, air conditioning usage, alternator demand, road surface, etc. And lets not forget one of the biggest contributing factors to erroneous MPG claims, the natural human tendency to exaggerate things in their favor. Oh and let's also not forget the human tendency to believe what the on-board computer says without hand calculating several tanks of fuel to cross check accuracy. Plus there's the tendency for people to report a brief reading of mpg while in motion not accounting for stopping and starting.

I could go on & on, but I digress.....

I made a trip from San Antonio to corpus and going down there I went 85 and got 15.7 and on the way back I went 70 to 75 and got 21.6. I had no idea the gas would drop that far going only 10 mph faster. But I was still very happy

i don't blame ya brother but not everybody can take pictures of their screen to prove it. i will say that the actual MPG thing on my current model isn't always accurate, its mostly always lower than actual.

i've gotten the best MPG recently when i traveled out of CALI and travled in AZ, NM, TX where the gas is supposedly alot less ethonal. going from north cali to south cali on hwy 5 with lotsa winds at night i can only get 21.5mpg going a super steady 70-75mph. as soon as i got out of cali and onto i40 then the mileage went up.

on my last leg from armarillo tx to wichita falls tx, i filled up with 88 octane and saw a 23.5mpg on the screen but when i calc'd it it was actually 24.01. i wanted to take a picture of it but i forgot to. i will take a picture on the way home from wichita falls tx to sacramento california which will be the beginning of next month. just to prove to the doubters in this forum of how the 3.7 can sip gas. i'll try to snap a picture of the whole history of the miles, time, mpg, and etc board everytime i get gas.

i am too a firm believer of proof so i will try to provide that this time.

MPG threads are always going to be kinda worthless if you are comparing your truck to someone else even if they are identical.

Hand calculating isn’t anymore accurate. In Florida 1/3 of the pumps failed their accuracy test. That plus all the other factors that can alter the amount of fuel in each fill up makes hand calculating no better. My 5.0l can get its government rated MPG and a bit more but everything has to line up just right. I know a few 3.7l owners who are the same way. My brother lives in Texas and his 3.7l does real well on open flat roads at 65 mph. Start changing things like wind, road flatness and speed and it starts dropping of. I've been given hell from several MPG ****'s on this forum (not calling you one) because they all seem to have there particular paradigms when it comes to measuring MPG. If I give my highway MPG I don't include the road to get to the highway, the on ramp or anything else because that isn't highway. I set the 'puter once I'm up to speed and drive for several hundred miles. That is highway. Mixed driving is another area of question. Time wise for me it is a 50/50 split but distance wise it is more like 65/35ish. I have 7 miles of straight 2 lane and 4 miles of town but at 5 am and avoiding most lights I can get great MPG. Someone else driving 65/35ish with the town being stop and go will not get near what I do.

Have 2011 XL 4X2 with 3.73 and trailer tow/flef fuel. 20 MPG since new on the cluster. Will do 24mpg on 2 lane rural blacktops, it's where the lil 3.7 does best. 21 MPG E85 is those same balcktops. Engine does best after 10 mile warm up run. It needs to get warm/truck running temps to run the best. Naturally E85 makes for a great fuel when things are around 100 degrees. It cools air 100 degrees as it mixes with air.
