DO NOT UPDATE IT BEFORE INSTALLING!!! I did and had to call bully dog and have it reinstalled on my tuner. Their tech support was awesome. Anyways....I first ran the high octane tune. Power was amazing but it shifts super hard!! I didnt care for that so i loaded the 87 octain tune. Power is still great but still shifts hard so i figure that just how its gonna shift.. Havent tried the TOW tune but i dont imagine it being any different. I was wondering if you have played around with the different Tunes?

I kept the 87 tune in and made my 20 mile trip home on the freeway to check out fuel mileage. Yesterday i drove the truck on a 80 mile trip with traffic and got 20 mpg according to the LCD screen. Now that was bone stock...no tune. Today with the 87 tune i was barely getting 17 with the cruise on 68mph. I was like...WTF!!! Also noticed if i paid real close attension the truck seemed to have a slight shudder. Wondering if the High Octain tune is any better or maybe the tow. The hard shifting cannot be good for the tranny. Im a little concerned and disappointed in the fuel mileage on the 87 tune. I guess i will try a different tune and check fuel mileage tomorrow. Any thoughts would be appriciated. If anyone in the Dallas area is looking for a ecoboost, i can hook you up. I work at a ford dealership and sell these daily. I will sell one to you at invoice... Hit me up
I've only run the premium fuel tune. Shifting fromm 1-2 was hard at first, but has since softened up considerably. It's not quite as smooth as stock, but it's close. I'd go back to the premium fuel tune and give it some time to adjust.

As far as mileage, I've been told that you can't rely on the dash after tuning. You need to hand calculate. I haven't done this yet, but will later this week or early next week. My dash reading is about the same as I was getting pre-tune. I'm getting around 18.5 at a little over 70mph. Also, before I got the Bully Dog tuner, I noticed a 1.5-2 mpg drop whent he weather got colder.

I just finished installing an Injen intake tonight. In the short drive from my shop to my house (less than a mile), I noticed a significant change in the sound. You can really hear the turbos and the waste gates dumping boost. I only got on it once very briefly, and it felt strong. I was at about a 5 mph roll when I stomped on it and even with the traction control on, it spun the tires from the start and from the 1-2 shift. I'll do more "testing" tomorrow.

Where did you order your cold air intake and how much was it? I just reinstalled the premium tune and went and dove in on a short trip on the highway... Shifting is still hard. Im glad to hear that it softens up after time because it sure hits hard in the 1-2 shifts. Fuel mileage seemed to be consistant from the productivity screen and on the bully dog. It sucked!! again i had the cruise on at about 70. Got about 18-19. It has gotten much cooler that the other day so maybe thats it. Maybe i need to check it the old school way. Im just a little concerned. Ill be glad when someone puts one on the dyno and check air/fuel and turbo temps under a hard pull. Ive never used bully dogs stuff. Always use SCT and never had issues, but then again SCT never made the type of power the bully dog does on a gas engine. What is bully dog doing different.... Hopefully not pushing the limits. Another concern of mine is if it is going to be tracable if i have to take it to ford for whatever reason. I did do the extended warranty for the piece of mind... Just hoping i didnt ruin my piece of mind...lol Granted i work for ford and will get a discount. But how much can they discount a new motor, turbos, transmission ect... By the way. I have a FX2 with 3:55 gears, just now turning 500 miles.. Oh one other thing for you Esquire... Did you happen to notice the turbos sounding louder on the tune vs stock? Thanks man. I feel like we are the only two with these tuners and i feel like a test dummy and a little worried about what this thing is doing to my motor.. Peace

you guys expecting 20+ mpg out of a full size half ton at 70-75 i'm afraid might not be satisfied.

if you really want mpg's try 55-65mph. i'm sure they'd break 20 at these speeds. these trucks are aerodynamic as bricks, more drag = worse mpgs.

Your missing the point! It seems that i was getting better fuel economy before the tune. I am well aware of the shape and size of the truck, but thanks for the heads up..

@Boosted 2011: yes you ruined your piece off mind. Ford can tell if any tuner has ever been connected as it is stored in encrypted areas and can only be retrieved by a dealer. If you experience any motor troubles or throw codes or have tranny issues you have now given Ford an excuse not to cover it.
A good relationship with your dealership service manager is your best insurance now.

I did a 561 mile trip at 70-75mph averaging 21.8 mpg. Cruise control is your best friend.

The last two trucks I had or course were both naturally aspirated and tuned. One was a Ford and the other a Chevy. Personally never had any issues other than minor things like a stereo speaker and a recall but I told the SM each time and both said no problem. One even said we see them all the time and quote(you cant hurt them) unless something is terribly wrong. Knock on wood I never had any issues with either motor or drive train that would have been attributed to a tuner related issue.

On the other hand I personally would have reservations tuning a turbo motor on a newer vehicle with warranty. I would take the reserved path and wait a year or two to see if others have or havent had issues. I sure wouldnt want to be the poor bastard that finds out the hard way. Cuddos for those who do, someone has to be first. Heck I had reservations about tuning my 6.2 but turbo motors are a total different animal. Heck look at it this way, a power adder is a power adder, what do you think a dealer would say if you brought a truck in for warranty with Nos, same principle. Too much boost=bad things, such as too much Nos= bad things. Both set up properly in moderation will support equally good life without issues. Also this is personall experience not guessing, I've had both and went through a ton of bottles..

That's so very true.

Averaging 17-18 in a full size truck is really good I don't care what engine you have. I don't believe my Eco will ever average the 22 it said it will cause when they do those test (and I may be wrong on this) but they have a very flat surface and they pick days with little to no wind. Basically they set up the picture perfect test day. Yeah they are way closer to real life than they were 10 years ago but I still don't ever think cars will hit the exact numbers they are showing with every unit they sell.

Me and my grandfather both bought eco's about the same time (couple weeks apart) and his average (I promise I have seen this for my self) is 22-23 mpg on the computer read out. Mine is 17.1 all day long. What the difference? He lives in a small town and cruises on the highway at 55 mph. I live in Houston and sit in traffic and have to cruise on the highway at 70-75.

So if your are worried about mpg you just have to drive like an old man I guess lol.

yeah, i cannot remember a car we've ever had that gets the EPA sticker result lol.

you just answered your question, sounds like he is usually moving, and going slower speeds. you sit in traffic and travel at higher speeds.

his may have a 3.55 rear end and you may have a 3.73 axle. idk

the drive like an old man statement is certainly true. :thumbsup
