Interesting loss of power while trying to suddenly accelerate at 80 mph
Blasting down I-40 today, I wanted to pull around and pass a slower car that had been doing a good job of blocking me for about 10 miles. I pulled into the open lane/spot and punched it. The transmission down geared to 3rd and immediately the power disappeared. I took my foot off of the accelerator, the engine revved slightly and then the transmission went back into 6th gear. The truck then was able to accelerate normally but not at the "punch it and go NOW" mode that I know and love from my EB.
This happened 3 times today.
I looked and did not see symptoms like this mentioned. Has anyone seen this too?

It's happened to me too. I've documented it with Ford. Their excuse "it's a characteristic of the truck". My feeling is that when I stomp on the gas the truck should move, not nail the rev limiter and shake like a hctib. IMO it's a safety concern that has the potential to cause an accident. Call the NHTSA and document it. If enough people do they will make Ford issue a recall to fix it. You have to stress the safety aspect of it though.
Imagine if you were going 40 and tried to pull in to 80mph traffic and didn't go anywhere? That's what happened to me while towing my boat. Damn near caused a wreck.

It could be what greygoat experienced with bad cats. I know with my 05 mustang gt i tried to pass somebody and slammed it to third and the car just stalled until i let off the gas (torque management). If i would have had traction control turned off this would not have occured. It can be very dangerous especially if you have a little window to pass another vehicle. Monaha, try turning off your traction control next time and see if you get the same results. If you do get the same results, it might be your cats.

Put it to ford immediately. Heard the solinoid has metal chips in it and cause lock ups and downshifts.

ditto Except mine did it at slower speed.
Driving about 40 mph, I changed lanes and stepped on it all the way. But instead of accellerating or downshifting, it hung in gear and the check engine light started flashing for a few seconds. Felt like dragging something. It did this twice on the same trip. Has anyone actually had the correct diagnosis for this????

I just posted the same thing happening to my truck before seeing this thread. My truck will be going to a dealer to get a good look over. But the more I think about it I think its just a software issue that ford didnt experience while in development. I think when the truck downshifts to third at higher speeds an it cant react fast enough to shift to 4th so it might over rev the engine for a moment causing a misfire code
