I know whats coming, but I said I would.
My review of MPT street performance tune V.10 in comparison to my earlier v.4 and my SSI T4.
To try and avoid some of the haters, these are my opinions rated 1-3 best to worst with very short explanations.
MPG
1. MPT V4 (14.9 mpg over 3k miles)
2. MPT V10 (14.2 mpg over 2k miles)
3. SSI T4 (13.2 over 9k miles)
Power
1. MPT V10
2. SSI T4 (very close)
3. MPT V4
Transmission shift points
1. MPT V4. Slightly higher rev, but makes the hp with rpm rather than boost- reason for better mpg. Also more responsive.
2. MPT V10 - higher shift point than stock at WOT
3. SSI T4. Seem stock. In fact, when I asked about adjusting firmness to get rid of noise, I was told it wasnt tune related because they dont adjust the tranny. In reality, adding 30% power, but not adjust tranny to deal with it is just ignorant.
Throttle tip in
1. MPT V10 - responsive but not too responsive
2. MPT V4 - a little sluggish
3. SSI T4 - Big wow factor up front, nothing much additional towards end. Made for horrible gas mileage because turbos would spool with moving throttle 1/4 inch(not 1/4 throttle.)
Transmission reliability
1.) MPT V.4 - least power, strong shift. No slip. Full throttle, never makes a noise in tranny.
2.) MPT V.10 - most power, strong shift, minimal slip. Makes occasional noise at full throttle when you trick it. (get on it, let of, get on it again.)
3.) SSI T4 - Quite a bit of power, weak shift (shifts like butter as ppl say), a lot of slip, and in my case a nasty noise almost every time you are 2/3 throttle or more.
Shift firmness - it has set ratios, it should not feel like a CVT
1. Tie between two MPT tunes.
3. SSI as soft as stock, but should it be when you have 25-30% more power, no.
Driveability- instead of rating in order, this is a preference thing.
Someone who drives somewhat aggressively - MPT V 10
Someone who drives like a grandpa - MPT V 4
Someone who drives like a teen who just got their license and is all about going fast all the time - SSI T4
Cost
MPT game me free updates and I originally bought programmer and 3 custom tunes (econ, tow, perf) for the price of the programmer. SSI was $250 for 3 tunes, no programmer, plus wanted $150 to update to T5. You do the math.
Customer service
1. MPT - provided answers willingly and didnt argue about problems. Made adjustments on v4 tune to meet my needs (havent asked about any for v10)
2. SSI - doesnt answer technical questions, and claims problems arent their fault. Wouldnt adjust tranny shift firmness when I felt (and now know) it was the cause of my problem. Instead they wanted to sell me another version of their tunes for $150.
For me, I want a mix between MPT v10 and V4. Power of the v10, strategy of the V4. I will never run my SSI tune again because of the tranny noise I get when I run it.
Now I know there is going to be some hate(probably a lot judging by my last post)....but for those of you that aren't haters, just remember the following. I had a few issues with MPT at first and went to SSI. The insane throttle tip in gave me false impressions and got my rocks off for a while, but I had some nasty tranny noise that went away when I tried MPT again, and my mpg increased by nearly 20%. I have run both and I have no affiliation to either. I spent money at both places. My straight up opinion is that MPT knows what they are adjusting and I don't regret spending my money there.

It's very odd to hear anyone complain about SSI T4?? Complaints regarding T4 were very far and few between when it was in the wild approximately 7 to 5 months ago. Funny enough, shifting of T4 was not smooth - it was rock hard, especially between 1-2. It would smooth out unless under significant throttle and then would firm up; really revolutionary stuff. I know this because I run a version of T4 to this day. Additionally, there was more than one shift strategy offered....... as is the case today, too.
I've asked directly regarding your comment that the transmission is not touched (when everyone in the tuning world assuredly knows this is the case) and there appears to be no basis for what you are saying. Additionally, it would be extremely rare for a mechanical noise to "disappear" or self-correct. Once something is sideways, it will stay there and only increase in terms of being an issue.
I also do not know why you are comparing T4 to new MPT tunes? Although T4 has no problem standing up to the newest MPT tunes wrt to drivability and performance, T4 is several iterations ago.
In any case, your post reads as a "hater" notwithstanding you have now made 2 essentially synonymous threads - which, of course, paints you as a "hater."
There are so many threads on the tunes and the tuners, and in reality, people have to make up their own mind - even if that is to run tunes from multiple tuners.
It's just not helpful to offer statements as facts that are nothing more than opinions laden with emotion.
At the end of the day, what matters is that you enjoy and feeling good about the tune you run in your truck....

If SSI adjusts the tranny, Shawn blatantly lied to me and stated that they dont. Hell, I would have tried the T5 if he had said it had more firm shifting or that he could make it more firm. If he does make those adjustments, he couldnt be honest to me that the tranny setting could be the cause of my noise. Regardless, the shift strategy feels stock to me and when I originally ordered the tune from SSI I said I would like an all around street performance tune, so I dont think that implies stock.
Now as far as being a hater, I was referring to people that couldn't take an opinion and leave it alone. An individual against an individual. Not someone that has an opinion about a product. I wouldn't have even made that statement if there weren't so many hateful callouts when I made that synonymous post you speak of. If you had read the synonymous post, I also stated I was waiting on my V.10 from MPT and that I would provided an updated comparison once I received it. Well, this is that post. At least you know I follow through with what I say.
Now as far as something still being wrong with my tranny. Ok, very possibly so, but the increased shift pressures of the MPT tune do not let the tranny slip and the noise is gone. The noise was almost like a mean chatter...clutches slipping. Did you not think about that sometimes clutches get glazed when slipped too much (not enough line pressure in tranny)? And that when driven correctly (enough line pressure)the glaze can wear off and the clutches act normal again? So possibly the problem DID in fact get better.
Even if the problem didnt go away and is still there, at least it is not getting worse at the rate that the SSI tune was making it get worse.

If he is happy with his current tune, whatever it may be, then Stfu and move along.
Your attempt at diluting any post that is less than positive about SSI is about as negative in appeal than anything that may have been initially posted by the OP.

I have no trouble believing what you said. In some cases in just comes down to strategy and whether the tuner has good juju with it. My experience was exactly the opposite. I like to try tunes out that I have heard good things about even though I've been more than happy with my SSI tunes. I actually got MPT tunes back when waiting for T2 to be finalized and had trouble with the previous Level 4 or 5, my first from SSI. While blown away by the low-end, I had shifting issues because I had given Shawn a previous strategy because I didn't know I had been updated. So I tried the MPT tune, was impressed that it also had go low end, but the shifting was so harsh that I was afraid to run it. That was version 4. Then I got SSI T2 and was wowed by it and T3 after, and finally T4. By that time I realized I preferred a more mellow throttle strategy and told Shawn I couldn't live with a touchy throttle (I had the street version) during the winter and he told me he was working on it. Just before snow started to fly, I received the T4 Snow & Ice tune and it was a work of art.
Then came T5 and it was jumped on by some, but I am more cautious, so I waited meanwhile reading that MPT was getting better with shifting, I asked for an update.
The shifting was better, but still a little touchy, but there was a flutter under load that worried me, so happily back to T4 Snow. I mentioned the flutter in an MPT thread, was told it had been fixed, so got version 8. No flutter, but too touchy for winter driving, so asked for toned down throttle. I got 8B with more gentle throttle and a big flat spot from 1/4 to 3/4 thottle where passing was just too slow. I told MPT, but was once again back to SSI T4 Snow with excellent mid-throttle response. I had been reading about Knock Retard, how it worked and what was good, so I figured out the formula and added it to Torque Pro. Tested KR with stock, SCT and SSI tunes and got numbers ranging from -2.5 to +1.5 on all of them. My MPT revision 10 arrived, it had throttle response more to my mellow liking but still twitchier than T4 Snow, but still had a mid-throttle flat spot. Worse yet, my KR ranged from -9 to +9 and even MPT fans told me not to run it. So this time I tried SSI T-Rex Jr and loved it with mellow throttle and shifting, yet amazing passing power. I did try the MPT tow tune, didn't like the way it felt and it had wild KR swings. I have since tried the SSI tow tune and it is the best tow tune I have ever had as a daily driver with more power and mellower shifting than SCT, MPT or 5 Star (I do like 5 Star though).
The point is that your experience doesn't say what someone else's experience is going to be, nor is mine. I have heard that having the same strategy as the MPT shop truck is a big plus.
Meanwhile, I've given up on MPT because it wasn't working for me.

As far as flat spots in the throttle, I havent noticed any on my truck. do you have an 11 or 12 model? Maybe the change of turbo design in 13 has something to do with it.
Perhaps if the two companies were able to mix techniques we would have a perfect tune (I know that would never happen.)
As far as harsh shifting, I experienced that in my first couple of rounds of tunes with MPT, but personally havent had any issues on v10.
