Fuel for a 5.0

I buy 91 from Shell in ON, Canada because it has 0 ethanol.. Just like the manual says, 'premium gas will increase performance'. 87 is a ****ty fuel. My manual recommends premium for Ecoboost especially when towing or hauling in hot weather, so I use premium in my 5.0 L.
Just filled the tank with 93 from Shell in Port Huron, MI and it was ... $3.65/gal or $0.96 per liter which is dirt cheap compared to our Canadian prices.

You get 17 MPG average with a 5.0L V8? Or do you have an ecoboost? Hope i didnt get a Lemon haha my 2011 is getting approximately 11.3 MPG but is going up slowly. Not sure how often it updates but i am probably going to reset it next week. The 11.3 is around 80% City/local. My father was getting 13 and change. But thats still nowhere near 17?!

I run 87 and have averaged 21 mpg hwy since new. If it's flat I'll get a bit better. Ran almost 2000 miles on a trip right after I got the truck and spent 4 days driving through 2 lane mountain passes in N.C. and still averaged 19 mpg. I got 16.5 towing my tractor and 14ish towing 3 round bales at 55-60 mph.
My fuel history gauge was giving me the finger

He went 98 miles in two hours and five minutes. That is an average of under 50 mph. Anyone with a 5.0 on relatively flat ground should be able to exceed 20 mpg at an average speed of less than 50 mph.
Try it for yourself.

No, I went 60 for a while, then traffic, then towns then back to 60.

If I drove 95ish for 10 min (speed limiter) my mileage would have dropped like a rock. Then if I had slowed down so as to even it out to 50 mph at the end it would not be the same as traveling at a constant speed of 50 mph for the entire trip.
By your thought if you were in some heavy stop and go traffic coupled with 80 mph sprints during the 98 miles but you still averaged just under 50 mph you should be able to obtain 20+ mpg.
Your post gave an insinuation of mpg at a given general speed as indicated by time without taking any other factors into consideration like traffic or road conditions. You implied that the mpg was obtained due to lower than average speed when in fact it wasn't the only or even the main factor in the equation.
Here. I drove an average of 63.5 mph. I started about 50 miles east of Kansas City and took the picture in Asheville N.C. Some flat, some hills and some mountains.
After a week driving around the Boone/Blowing Rock/Lenoir N.C. area and the return trip home I managed 18.9 mpg. My average speed now? 49 mph. So by your definition I should have done worse on the first part of the trip as I "averaged" over 63 mph compared to the end mph "average" being under 50 mph.

Man im going to reset my truck tomorrow and see what sort of MPG im getting right now now that i learned to drive somewhat more efficiently. Currently at 11.6 and going up every day or 2. :/ I had a 2004 Crown Victoria Police interceptor and would always complain about crappy MPG's and about the car in general. Switched with my father so now he drives that to work daily and i have the truck for school and work. I absolutely love the truck but holy crap the mileage is a killer. 80-90$ To fill up the tank D: 360 miles on a full tank. Filling it was around 90 with like 60 or 70 to Empty.

My wife can't get better than 17 mpg. She seems to enjoy the exhaust a lot more than I do. She has dragged my lifetime mpg down to 17.2 mpg over 5k miles but in all fairness the truck sees a lot of in town driving. Her Durango gets 17 highway on a good day even when I'm babying it. Mine does best at around 65 mph or a bit less.
