Ford Techs, Bigger Tires On 2011???
I've heard that the new 2011 ECM's can't be re-programed at the dealer for bigger tires?? Is this true? I was planning on changing the 275/55R20 to 305/55R20 will this affect anything other than the speedo and odometer? Or will there be a re-program available soon.

I'm sure i read it in another post that the 2004 - 2010 had no problems going to ford and having the wheel diameter made larger in the computer to keep the speedo and odometer where they should be, but that the 2011 had some kind of encription behind it to make it harder for programmers and that the ford scan tool couldn't even change the diameter size. hoping that this was a false statement or was just an un-informed post?
As my new truck (when it finally gets here) is an ecoboost i don't want to fool around with any aftermarket tunes or programmers, i just want to level an a little bigger tires.
Thanks

The way things are looking with the 2011s, my advice would be to ASK first, before doing ANY mods. I've heard rumors here and there that no more than 3% increase in tire size to maintain the warranty, but haven't specifically asked that question to the dealership.
Personally, I think that many are going to have to realize that the game of mods and warranties has changed with the 2011 model trucks...and I think it's going to come down to choosing between the warranty and mods.

well that 3% rule kind of sucks for me!!! i was hoping 5%, cause the 305/55R20's are only 4% bigger than the stockers. I know this adds a little stress to the drive line but I don't think the trucks can be made to that close a margin for what is too much stress and not.
I'll talk to the dealer when I pick up the truck, they told me after i ordered that a lift kit and bigger tires wouldn't void the warranty. If they do still say it's ok maybe i'll get it in writing. but who knows maybe this new release of warranty info for ford will change things.
I guess i may have to go with LT295/55R20 instead and maybe just a 1.5" level instead of a 2" level with the 3" replacement blocks.

I sure hope its more than 3% as well. I'm having my dealer install Goodyear Dura Trac LT275/70/18 (33.2") on my FX4 when it finally arrives and the stock size is around 32.1 - 32.2ish. So just a little over 3%! They haven't said anything yet.

I asked my dealer this question this afternoon while ordering my truck. He said he has never heard of over sized tires voiding the warranty. They usually have at least one on their lot with bigger tires......
