This has probably been asked but I have ~4200 miles on my 5.0 and the oil life indicator still says 60% remaining. Any input on when to go ahead and do the first change?

Normally I do 5000 mile intervals with full synthetic on my vehicles but I am a bit uncomfortable going much past that considering the factory oil is only a synthetic blend. On the other hand I don't want to waste money doing unneccesary oil changes. Is this oil life indicator trustworthy?

I did mine (6.2) at 7500 in accordance with the service manual. What does yours say?

Thanks for the replies. That's kind of what I was thinking. I just have a hard time seeing how they are suggesting going more than 5000 miles without the factory oil being a full synthetic.

I don't get why they even bother with a blend, other than to save money. If you want the properties of synthetic, go all the way.

5k oil changes is the way to go and if you live in cold climates I say go for the synthetic.
