Default Update

Just returned from another 1,300 mile trip to Orlando, FL. The trip down the weather was great. Mileage hovered around 23.1 to 23.4 mpg at 68 to 70 mph. The mileage in and around Disney over approx 150 miles ranged from 15.5 to 16.5 mpg ending up at 16.3 mpg overall. The trip back was a bit different as the weather sucked. Rain, with terrible head and crosswinds that knocked us down to 20.3 mpg. Keep in mind this is not a scientific measurement, just what the computer thingy says. But, overall the mileage does seem to be better at 6000 miles on the odometer than the first trip with the odometer reading at 400 miles when we left home. Now, if I can get the dealership to fix the slop in the drivetrain, I'll be a very happy camper.

Default 3.7 Mileage Improving Drastically! 21.2 mpg overall (Yes really)

Just turned 2000 miles on my 3.7 reg cab 3.55 gears.
I had reset my trip odo and avg mpg at previous fill up then rechecked the computer against actual mpg at my last fill up.
So it was "fill up to fill up" - "click to click at the pump.
Computer showed overall average = 19.4 mpg.
By hand calculator 280.4 miles divided by 13.2 gal = 21.24 mpg.
I cannot complain about overall fuel consumption of 21.2 mpg based on fairly moderate driving of 60% city and 40% hwy (est).
I think the lighter regular cab w/3.55's will do better than the SCAB and SCREW with 3.73's. Not only lighter, but less less power sap due to the shorter driveline.
I did ride in a SCREW and will admit it does have a superior ride to the RC. Also seemed to be quieter. So there are advantages to all three configurations.

Just under 3000 miles and my mileage is getting better, 16.7 around town even though I get on it a lot. That's an increase of just a couple tenths, but still good. It seems to have picked up a few hp in the last thousand miles also.

Nice mileage there Wanted! Although Florida is some pretty flat land so it should give you optimal conditions. I just took mine on a trip from Baltimore to mid western Virginia, 60-75 mph some flat lots of hills and some mountains. Overall trip was 20.3, so I was pretty happy with that especially since my motor was under 1000 miles at the time. Hope to see those numbers keep improving.

I agree Buck, Florida is fairly flat. If mine does 20 in the mountains of N.C. I'll be happy. You know it's strange that we talk about mpg's in a truck. My how times have changes.

LOL seriously! But with the price of these bad boys and the gas mileage of years ago, I might have to take out a second mortgage to afford one...

I think the 3.7 is a great base engine for the F150 combined with enough gears (6spsd, come on 8spd) to get the good out of her along with over 300 hp especially compared to the GM 4.3 (not sure about MoPar). I can imagine fleets of white work trucks going everywhere working on everything. Not to mention making available a damn nice truck affordable and obtainable.

I had a 2011 Mustang with that motor combined with a 6spd manual and a 2.76 gear. . . My last 800 mile trip averaged 34.9mpg running between 60 and 80 for the entire 800 miles.

Sorry for hijacking the thread except to say that I think everything is there for a very fine truck capable of getting mileage and performance numbers previously unheard of in a full size pickup. Its you guys that will get-r-done.

No one has a base engine that comes close, and with the addition of our 6 speed trans, it blows them away. And we have the best gas mileage to boot. But they will catch up in a year or two, then everyone will have great base vehicles.

Ran 260 miles with wind to the back and averaged 23.8 mpg. Also noticed a .5 mpg gain into the wind by going M and setting trans in 5th gear. about 400 RPM gain on the motor but truck handled the 25 mp wind with no pull to the motor and a gain in mileage very noticeable, 19.5. Hauling 1000 lbs. Have noticed if you just lay your foot on the throttle the 3.7 has the hp to accelerate basically on its own and keep the mileage up in the 23's if you aren't in a hurry. Get in a hurry and shove down on the pony meter and 300 hp takes the gas and drops into the 18's real quick. It's your $5.00 every time you need it. I had a 66 GTA 390 with comparable HP and could never get 11 mpg. Always 10.5 no mater how easy I drove that car. Quite a difference in technology.

I have a 5.0 I have seen as low as 11.7 but that was towing a brick wall well it seemed like that in other words inclosed that weighed 6k, high was hand calculated at 20.2 BUT my sticker unlike the rest does not say 21, its a FX4 and only says 19. is a SCREW 5.5 with 3.73, but I always remember its a truck and I dont give a F*** fuel must go in so i dont walk and Im fine with that but the 36 gallon tank takes FOREVER to fill on a cold day!!
