Exhaust (chickened out)

hi!
iTrader: (2)
I don't know what motor you have, but I recently removed everything after the resonator on my Ecoboost.
It sounded very similar to a Subaru WRX with aftermarket exhaust. I put the stock exhaust back on ASAP.
If you have a 5.0/6.2, it should sound better.
But if you have 30-45 minutes to spare, remove the stock muffler after the resonator and find out how it sounds. Don't like it? That's ok.. It's free.. hah
My previous F150 was a 2008 with the 4.6L 2V. I drove that truck 2 years with the stock muffler off and it really wasn't that loud. Just get a turn down tip and bolt it up in place. When I traded the truck in, unbolted the tip and put the stock exhaust back on. No problems.

magnaflow
I put 1 on my 07 a few days ago and a KN cai. yes it is a bit louder with the 3" but I was trying to get alittle better performance.I would probably stick with the stock duels if your happy with the tone. If you have money to spare try them out it does bolt right up right at the cats took an hour 1/2 to re re and I still have the stock if I want to change back.

Good idea might be to find some info on Buick 3.8L GSXs and Buick GNX exhausts. I know it won't be exactly the same...but maybe a good starting point.

Well, I finally made it to the exhaust shop today. I spoke with the reps about as many different exhaust systems that I could think of. My suspicions and online research seemed to have paid off. I wanted a system that gave me a good low, rich and smooth sound. That pretty much put Flowmaster out of the question, although Flowmaster is a good system, it's much too loud for my taste (maybe in my younger days). Magnaflow still gives a good performance level, and is obviously louder than factory, but the sound is a bit more mild than Flowmaster. Corsa has yet to come out with a direct fit system for the Limited's 6.2, but the reps at the shop tell me that sound from a Corsa would be very similar to Magnaflow but with a slightly different tone. Borla really didn't come up in our conversation, but I don't believe that I've seen a direct fit for Borla on the 6.2 non-Raptors yet. So, that being said, although apprehensive, I decided to go with the Magnaflow. I went with Magnaflow cat back single in, dual rear exit and kept the resonator in place. The sound is phenomenal! It's not loud, obnoxious, or annoying. It gives a good low and smooth growl at idle and a rich sound when on the throttle. There's no in cab drone noise when cruising and I don't find myself hammering down on the throttle anymore to get the growl I like to hear when I did when it was factory. The techs at the exhaust shop told me they'd be able to take the resonator out afterward if I wanted it louder yet, but I think it's perfect where it's at. One thing they did warn that after about a week the Magnaflow muffler will get slightly louder after it breaks in a bit more, but I can live with that. So, if anyone else out there is holding off on exhaust for fear of how loud it will be, I too was apprehensive, but I took the plunge and couldn't be happier. My next move is going to be the cold air intake, time to start researching. I've read a few things on the forum here, but it's all from people who are saying they will install. Those of you who already have installed, what are you finding works best so far? Any suggestions?

I have a 5 star tune and intake. I like their intake since you can take off the cover when you want. Long trips pulling my camper I put it back on. For tune you can call them up and they will send you a new tune for any mods you do.
Overall very happy. Sometimes just after Loading a new program it starts and has 2 seconds of rough idle, that seems to work it self out after a few starts.
Would you be willing to post or pm how much you paid for parts and labor to get your cutback system done?

I paid $415 out the door for my Magnaflow dual rear exit system. It could have been $370, but i spent the extra for some double walled stainless steel tips. I'm not really sure if you're going to find that kind of pricing anywhere though. I did quite a bit of wheeling and dealing and paid cash. The shop I got it done at does their own fab work with galvanized aluminum piping. So they're able to keep cost down by not using the full stainless piping that Magnaflow sells with their catback system. Basically, all I bought with the Magnaflow name on it is the muffler and the tips, all the custom piping is galvanized aluminum. I'm not too worried about having it all stainless, we don't get much salt on the winter roads here in South Florida.
