New Fix For 2018 Ecoboost
The 2018 Ecoboost engines will have Direct Injection as well as Port Injection fueling. Its my guess that the combination may be their fix for carbon build up on the intake valves.

Dry fuel / and direct injection motors get build up that effects performance in the 4000-4500 running hour range. 140,000- 160,000 miles. Valve an guides are usually worn then also. Top end overhaul time for kids to do with used trucks in the plus 200,000 miles time frames.

This is more about fuel delivery quantities with max tow an 10 speed transmissions under extreme loading and tow RPM's than carbon. The washing effect at those times is an after the fact plus but will not clean off already baked on carbon.
