Default Ecoboost and towing, half full or half empty

Just make a 5500 km trip from the prairies of Canada to the Pacific and back home. I have a 2011 ecoboost with and cai and a 4inch afe exhaust. 20 inch rubber. I was towing a 10000lb 30 ft travel trailer.

No work of a lie I even took pictures to prove I was getting 41 l / 100km or 5.7 mpg. OUCH. Now in all fairness 1 was traveling between 110 to 120 kmph, the truck pulled the trailer with no problems at all going through the mountains.

Look at it this way every 250 -290 kms driven I had to fuel up, OUCH.

The ecoboost can tow heavy loads but at an extreme expense.

Just my real world input.

What a beautiful backdrop..Should be on a FORD brochure..wow, 5.7mpg's that's low but that's a huge trailer and those hills look pretty steep, congrats on the trip.

I've driven through the Rockies in an SUV and it was a pig on gas with no trailer. Looking at the price of gas in Canada I think it's cheaper out west then here on the east side but you were looking at about $150.00 for every 180 miles...Ouch is right.

You're a complete jackass for traveling 70-75 mph with that trailer, behind that truck, in those hills.

And it explains the horrible mileage...

For comparison, I towed a 9500 lb fifth wheel with my 2011 ecoboost on a 7000 mile trip out to New Mexico, up to Wyoming and back to Vermont at a SAFE towing speed of 60-63 mph and got about 10 mpg despite strong head winds most of the way out. Admittedly, my fiver is more aerodynamic than your trailer, but trailer tires are only rated to 65 mph.

Speed costs money; how fast do you want to go?

Thanks for the update and the story of your trip.................but --- please check the speed rating of your TT's tires before you head out again. I have never seen a TT tire that is rated for any more than 65 mph.
Any faster than that and you are risking a catastrophic tire failure and your family's lives......please check?

first of all jcain

If you pay attention and read carefully I am located in the middle of the prairies, the speed limit is 110. I speed was between 110 to 120, "comma" and the truck pulled the trailer good in the mountains NOT I was traveling 110 to 120 in the mountains.

IF you do not take the time to read then you may have read that Detroit is accepting bankruptcies and not that they are bankrupt.
