EcoBoost towing 11,000lbs on a semi-daily basis?
#131
I have owned both a diesel and an Eco.
If I was towing more than 7000lbs 3-4 days a week I would go with a diesel. To me the sure footedness of the diesel would shine and I could put up with the big clunky beast they are. Any less frequent the comfort, light weight for poor road conditions, lower maintenance (which is almost par it seems now) and lower warm up time I'd go with the Eco.
I loved the power of my diesel but they are beasts. My eco feels like a car in comparison till you gun it then it feels like a race car! I wouldn't feel bad about towing max weight on my Eco but I wouldn't do it every day. I'd get too frustrated. But if any commuting was involved you will appreciate the ecos plush ride.

For anyone thinking of pulling serious weight with any 1/2 ton truck, I'd suggest poking your head in the wheel well and look at the frame size difference between a 1/2 and a 3/4 or 1 ton truck. There is a massive difference in the frame size.

Excellent point, and after you compare frames, compare the rear axle pumpkin, springs and brakes. The diesel with an engine brake (jake) makes easy work of slowing down the entire rig. Safety is paramount when towing.

Being that Im the original poster, i should let everyone know that I ended up going with a 2500 HD Duramax to pull all the weight around. This was over a year ago now, but when I was deciding, I rented an ecoboost and towed all my weight around for the day. I had pretty significant pucker-factor so I decided to step up to a diesel. Dont regret it one second (plus, Im pretty sure the mileage is better too!). That said, if I could get away with a gasser, itd be a EcoBoost tomorrow. My brother, dad, and father in law all have EcoBoost and love them! ...But they borrow my truck when they have seriously heavy loads...

Smart decision. Pulling the weight isn't the issue - it is everything else where the 3/4 ton and up make sense!

How is the Duramax doing on fuel economy towing your dump trailer and skid steer? I get as low as 7.5 mpg towing 15k lbs. Usually all of my towing is in the single digits. Even with my empty gooseneck (5900 lbs) I get in the single digits.
How is the ride in the Duramax? I had a '13 Powerstroke and the steering was terrible. It was lose and bump steer was bad
