What a bizarre thread.....

Here's a little something I found out.. Might explain things a little my brother in law and myself both have a 2011 Eco lost f150.. And both of ours "died out" on us when we floored it... On separate occasions... Mine felt lime a misfire..I stopped turned the truck off and started it back up and it went away. Icalled the ford garage and explained and they asked me if it happened around 7000 miles.. Ironically both of our trucks were right around that mileage when it happened.... The dealer told me they are getting lots of reports of this problem at the low mileage that it normally happens only once and then goes away.. It hasn't happened since...

I am wondering if these issues are tied into a problem with the knock sensor.....as in it is either too sensitive or people are encountering detonation when they floor it and the knock sensor causes the timing to retard (as it is supposed to)

Second time it happened was about 2 weeks ago, same situation, this time i stayed on the gas to see if the flashing would come, and it did. If it was a knock or knock sensor issue, it would not cause a miss. I am starting to think maybe it is ignition coil-related, and only happens during a highway trip when the coils are at warmer temperatures.
Next trip I'll be filling up with premium to see if octane makes any difference, then it will be back to the dealership.

I felt the same way the first time it happened to me, because it was after a steady-state cruise for 3+ hours, then I punched it to pass in a four-lane section, lost power and wouldn't rev up, but was not missing (no CEL flashing) Dealership did not find anything with it whatsoever. Service rep told me the Tech checked for "air residue" in the turbochargers, among other retarded things. Useless.

Remember the Ecoboost engines have direct injection. The length and timing the injector opens has to be precisely on time with piston position, and ignition or all kinds of things will happen. A direct injected engine is the most efficent design you can have. I am not sure if can be done but hooking a device into the PCM that will record the above parameters might be very informative.
