I think the reason that the 4A transfercases shift out of 4WD...is because they are not in 4WD. AWD directs power to the rear "unless" it loses a gob of grip...by second gear the 4A is just pushing the rear wheels most likely.Put it in 4A and it most likely has moved all power to the rear wheels after the second gear shift.


Just a theory...

I had to look at a transfer case on a full time AWD Expedition once. If memory serves it had clutch packs to engage 4wd. Maybe the auto 4wd is doing the same thing?

13.437sec @ 100.01mph, bonesoftitanium, 2012 screw 6.5 4x4 3.55, fullrace exhaust and intercooler, ssi2ts2 93oct, drop in filter, jtl catch can, airlift rear bags, 33" duratracs
