Ecoboost opinions/insight please
#21
I have read quite a lot of the negative threads. It does make me somewhat Leary. On the flip side though when ever I have approached a ecoboost driver/owner at a gas station or parking lot to inquire about their experience I always hear great reviews from them. Rarely ever hear anything negative. I spoke to a guy up north this weekend. He pulled up to the pump next to me while I was feeding the old 5.4. He complimented me on my truck and said he used to have one similar. I asked him how he liked his boost and his response was it makes his old 5.4 screw look stupid. I laughed and agreed. We both agreed that the 04-08 were better looking rigs (in our opinion) but he wouldn't go back. As far as towing at 60mph where we go you would get blown off the road. I am that A-hole in the hammer lane dragging a boat to the lake at 80mph. I don't have the patience to run 60 on the highway. I would love to take a dealers truck for the weekend to see how it would do and what the fuel economy would be hauling my boat to where we go driving the way I drive. That would seal the deal or put a nail in the coffin.
You will always see more negative posts than positive ones. I know many many people with ecoboosts (in person not online) and only one ever had a issue, it was a first run 2011 and it was some sort of plastic deflector plate that got dislodged and 'eaten' but he still drives it to this day with 200,000km on it.

Thank you for all the input folks. I appreciate it. It looks like Tuesday I will take delivery of my new rig. I am picking up a 14 XLT Supercrew 4x4 in ingot silver with a 5.5 foot bed. It has leather and HID's. I am looking forward to seeing what the HID's are like at night. It has pretty much everything I was looking for and at least thing I didn't want. It has the Stick and step tailgate option. I don't think I will ever use it and I am afraid when you use the truck like a truck that the stick portion possibly could get broken. I told the dealer to swap out the tailgate with another silver truck without it but they said no. I would have rather had the $450 in my pocket.

Personally, I love the tailgate step option, but I am older than you.....lots older!
You will be amazed at how far the HID's reach out there, especially on bright. You literally will be lighting up the reflective road signs 3/4 or more of a mile away, and the cutoff for them is oncoming traffic friendly and very comfortable for your eyes too.

Eco-5.0-Eco again
You see negative threads and posts because people generally do not go on a forum to specifically make a post saying "everything is awesome" they post to bitch about a problem.

On that note, enjoy your ride!!!

My buddy had a 11 and he had a few issues with it. I have been eyeing them since they came out in 11 and trying to keep tabs on them. All face to face interaction with owners has been positive so far with the exception of my buddy. He didn't speak negatively about them but did inform me he had the chugging issue a time or two while towing his boat. I owned a 95 S-10 blazer which was a first year vehicle. At one time if memory serves it had 24-25 open campaigns on it. I said I would never own another first year model. I waited and I think this is my best opportunity to own one. I am getting damn near what I paid for my 04 when I bought it 4-5 years ago, z-plan, rebates and have a little $$$ to put down as well. It was now or never. I hope its a good one.

I have always been a die hard V-8 guy myself. I struggled with the "little V-6" thing for a quick second but after driving one, I have nothing to worry about. It makes my current triton look stupid. As far as Mustangs go, I should probably change my sig. At one time I did have Lots of them but I have been thinning the herd a little bit here and there. Currently what I have is my trusty 91 5.0 LX Convertible. That is the car that converted me to a Ford man. I have abused that car on as regular basis and it has never left me to return on foot. The original AOD crapped out but still got me to work. I have grenaded a couple T-5 trannys now as well but same thing, I was able to limp it home. I absolutely love that car. I also own a 67 fastback. It started off as a 4 lug,4 wheel drum brake, power nothing, 200 straight 6 car. It currently has a 347 C4 combo, Converted to 5 lug, Has 03/04 cobra brakes at all 4 corners, and the original 8.8 rear end from my 91 5.0. The crown jewel of my fleet is our 2006 Shelby GT-H. It is the 40th anniversary edition and it is car #40 out of the 500 produced. My username on this forum is actually our Shelby's CSM number. I also still own my first "nice" car that I bought after I got out of High school which is a 1991 Z-28 Convertible. We are running out of room here to store toys. I also have a 1968 Mustang that started life as a coupe but someone converted it to a Elenore Clone. The car had about 200 miles on the restoration and it caught fire and was a total loss. It has a ton of high dollar suspension,brakes,wheels,9 inch, toploader 4 gear, etc that was unharmed by the fire. I bought it cheap and sold the Cleveland for what I paid for the whole car. Trying to clean up the shop so I can get it home and get those underpinnings under my 67.

Congrats on the new truck. You'll love it!
I own 2 Ecoboost vehicles (see my sig) and love them both. Both 1st year models and outside of a knock sensor on the Taurus the engine has been rock solid. Just turned 79k today and it pulls like the day I drove her home in 2009.
The truck needed new plugs at 45k and now has 50k and runs fine.
Neither have that V8 rumble but the grin they put on my face makes me say "what rumble?"
