Why don't they test with the same shtuff we have to use? Seems logical, but this government where logic doesn't work.

Actually the EPA doesn't even do the tests, the manufacturers do.
Also Ford only has two EPA figures, 2wd or 4wd for each engine. They don't show different numbers for different cabs, bed lengths.

They can test with a 3:31 for the test then when I buy a 3:73 my fuel economy is 3 to 4 mpg lower. Their way out is that there is a range of mpg listed on the window sticker- you should fit in there somewhere.

Hence why Chevy has a 3.08 rear end as an option, to raise up their fuel economy numbers.

Well I did my own test on ethanol free gas. I drove a 4hr stretch of hwy and got 17.1 mpg on e10 gas. Ran my tank empty and filled up with ethanol free gas and man I was shocked by how much smoother my truck was. On the same route back I avg 21.7mpg. That's a huge difference! I downloaded this app for my phone called puregas that takes your location and shows ethanol free gas stations around you. I'm thinking about doing the switch to ethanol free gas from now on.

Our closest station with pure gas is 15 miles to the west on top of the already 10 miles to town. Not worth the extra 2 gallons of fuel I'd use to get there and back.

They say its because the ethanol content varies from state to state, season to season, depending on how each state implements the ethanol mandate. So the only way to get a consistent result is to test with only pure gas.

However, some might theorize that they are intentionally hiding the real effects of their own ethanol mandate from the less-informed general public/typical voter.

I tend to think that advertised as E-10 means just that so how could there be a difference in amount of ethanol content? Also there is just as much difference in octanes used in different parts of the country....ie such as mostly 84 not 87 at higher elevations.

The Feds mandate a certain percentage of fuel sold be ethanol. The states decide how to implement it. Some states just make everything e10. Others give tax breaks to stations that sell e10. Others mandate road fuel be e10 while marine fuel is pure gas. And, 10% is the maximum but what you buy may have less.

I was at 16.2 avg but dropped to 15.8 this winter. '12 FX4 3.73 19K miles. Somewhere on this forum I read where you lose 1 MPG for each 400 lbs of cargo. If true, the '15 is 700 lbs lighter and a less than 2 MPG increase doesn't seem too impressive.

This is my last 2 years of driving. MN driving with a long winter and winter blend gas for almost half the year. 2011 4x4 supercrew. Its actually 19,869 miles, not 9869 just for clarification!
