First post since I traded my double cab long bed tacoma with a rotted frame and bought a 2013 XLT 4x4 screw w/ecoboost. I have 2150 miles since nov 10th and I am wondering if my truck is missing the Eco button!

It's an xlt 303A package with EL 3.31 rear and 18" chrome with wranglers. I have had the average mpg to as high as 20 on a couple longer high way trips but as soon as I am off the highway it is dropping like a rock. I take off really slow, use a light foot and hardly ever go over 2k rpm. It seems as soon as I press the gas the green bar drops below the 15.8 average I can never seem to stay above. My average since ownership is 15.8 each of my 3 tanks has been the same. Feels like I am constantly pushing the pedal like there is a ton of drag. I am confused how most others are getting such better mileage.

Still happy with the truck I only lost 1 mpg from the tacoma and got a much bigger truck. Although my tacoma could hold almost the same amount of weight.

Accelerating slowly does not improve mileage. Decelerating slowly does.

Check your tire pressure and make sure you have at least 40 pounds maybe more in your tires. You also haven't went through the break in period yet. But the biggest difference for me was tire pressure. I was also getting about 15.6 mpg until I discovered there was only 32 pounds pressure in my tires. Immediately jumped to 20mpg on longer trips at highway speed.

I smell bull**** on this......................Anyone with a brain knows that extended idle just burns more gas!

It's funny how many people don't know that. They think if they accelerate like a Grandpa barely touching the throttle that they will save more fuel. Many tests have shown that accelerating at a moderate pace to get up to speed quickly, burns less fuel covering the same distance that you would if you were to slowly get up to speed.

Owned my ecoboost since new, Dec 2011.

2011 4x4 SuperCrew Lariat
5.5 bed
145" Wheelbase
3.73 gears
MAX trailer tow package
20" stock wheels and tires

REAL NUMBERS are as follows:

15 MPG around town (dips to 13.5 if i'm on the gas a lot)
23 MPG on Tollway (Illinois POS tolls) all day as long as I keep her on cruise at no more than 60 MPH.
18.5 MPG on Tollway at about 65-70 MPH
9 MPG towing a 4800 lb Travel Trailer. Yes, a crappy *ss 9 MPG with a Ultra Lite Travel Trailer, wife, two kids, two dogs, etc. Lousy *ss numbers there!!!

The only number in which I'm VERY disappointed in is the towing MPGs. I was really hoping to get more out of her...being that the travel trailer is on the light end. I'd hate to see what i get with a 8k lb travel trailer.

If U plan to tow over mountains this graph seems appropriate.

Chart Of The Day:

April 18, 2011

Like a turbo in an aircraft the EB appears to love high altitude and less wind resistance.

I have determined that 3.73 gears are way to low a gear for these trucks they have plenty of torque they need to run low rpm's to maximize fuel economy.

I just changed the stock P275-55-20 pirelli's to LT275-65-20 Toyo AT2's. These tires are 12 lbs a piece heavier, 2" taller, and cover 7% more distance. I'm running them at 45 psi

My mileage indicator shows the same or slightly better mileage when traveling 70 mph per my gps (speedo is off 4 mph).

That being said take my current winter crap mileage average of 16.0 x 7% = 17.12 mpg

In the summer I average 18.0 x 7% = 19.26 mpg

Not a bad gain for a much better tire!

I will be getting my speedo calibrated and track the mileage better.

Default Mileage update

I've had my 2013 eco0b00st for about three weeks. Now has approx. 700 miles. I monitored my mileage on two consecutive days driving to work and back. Basically a 15 mile trip each way. 75% highway and 25% city. Just a 2 day snapshot shows I have averaged 18.3 MPG. I'm o.k. with that but hope after it is broken in that it might do even better.
