Bubba, its hard to say for sure about the bed cover, but my truck gets excellent mileage and I have one. I'm averaging 20.2 over nearly 27,000 miles, and have hit almost 24 on road trips.

Not sure if it's the cover or the tires. But something has definitely improved. Oh BTW...on the map of speed limits above? I live right in the middle of that "BLUE 85MPH" area. Normal drive is a commute of 25miles averaging on 70mph freeways.
I have a BakFlip on mine, and had it on my last truck. I really couldn't say if it helps because it was on both trucks right away so I couldn't make a comparison. Tonneau manufacturers claim it saves fuel, but I have heard so many arguments both ways that it'd be tough to say. Depending on the tires you went to, that may have been the kicker. If I am not mistaken, more aggressive tires use more fuel due the rolling resistance.

Averaged 17.4 going ~78mph from Houston TX to Colorado

Reset the gage in Albuquerque and got 19.6 keeping the truck below 70mph

Truck is a 2012 Supercrew FX4 with a bed cover.

Default Ecoboost Mileage Update

Just had to make an unscheduled road trip on my Eco. Panama City Florida to Lynchburg Virginia & back. On the trip up, it was raining over half the time, sometimes heavy enough that 40 mph was the fastest we could safely travel. First tank was 19.6 mpg running 70 to 75 mph when possible. Second tank, weather was a little better and got 21 mpg running about the same speeds. Third tank, bad weather again and got 20.2. Haven't filled up at home yet but am showing about the same on the dash meter. BTW, two other points, mileage is calculated mileage, not meter mileage. Also, even with the very wet weather, didn't have any problems with accelerating when needed. Truck performed flawlessly and pulled all the hills on the highway in 6th gear!

Still loving my Ecoboost!

Here in Michigan I've been averaging around 18.0 mpg, driving with or faster than traffic, back roads, secondary blacktop and highway at 73mph.

My truck (specs in sig, 18,000 miles on the ticker) has a Leer topper, weighed it the other day at 6800 lbs.

I run 89 octane cheep Speedway gas. There are hardly any top tier gas stations in my area, I have confirmed on several trials that I gain almost 1.0 mpg just switching to Marathon 89 octane gas.

What really kills my mileage is lunch break everyday, start the truck drive 10 blocks of stop and go in town, go eat, then same drive back to work.

Been getting not the greatest mileage. Winter didn't help.

Made a 150 mile road trip today, between 70MPH and 75MPH. Got 19.3 MPG, before adjustment for the oversized tires, which pushes it over to over 20 MPG.

Running 5 Star's 91 tune recently and have been romping on it around town during my daily driving.

Really happy with the results today .

For reference, 2012 FX4 with 3.73's on 285/60/20 duratracs.

Did the tune help gain or lose mpg?

Not trying to pimp a tune but the qualities of the the perf tunes we have are so good with mpg that.... we cant sell a better mpg tune. Its all the same. It just goes way up too.

When I ran the canned SCT tunes, I got just about the same as stock-20.0-20.5 with low wind and 65 mph. Just the other day I made a 100 mile round trip with SoCal 91 perf. tune and got 21.5 at 75 mph.

Wow I didn't think the mpg would increase with with a performance 91 octane tune. That changes everything!!
