Current 5.4 is getting me 14.5, figured by hand cause the computer is always high by about 1 mpg. (I believe ford programmed it this way to deceive the purchaser to believe they get better than actual).

So is the Eco boost getting better than the normal engines or not? And don't say fuel economy isn't a concern in this truck, they named it ECOboost for a reason. Fuel economy will be a deciding factor between trucks when I find the one that will do what it needs.

Thanks
They named it Eco because it doesn't pollute.

My average is 19.3 and I'm mean to it.

Short answer. Yes. Sometimes. If you need a highway cruiser nothing will beat a eco with 3.15.

Agreed. The EPA numbers may not always predict what people actually get, but they are useful for comparing one vehicle to the next.

Just passed 38,000 on my '11 scab 4x4 3.73 and hand calculated mpg is 18.0. Onboard computer calculated me at 18.2. Not bad.

I have just under 3,000 miles towing my 11,000 lb wet and loaded fifth wheel at about 9.5 - 10.5 mpg included in those numbers.

I couldn't be more happy with the performance and mpg combo. Great truck!

My Ecoboost now has over 36,000 miles on it. It has gotten better mileage as it has gained miles.

I do the same trip to LA from San Diego a couple times a month to pick up parts for my business. I reset the average mpg meter when it was new and got 25.7 mpg. That was all freeway at 65mph. Never over. At 10,000 miles the truck hit 28 mpg. I was blown away. I just replaced the plugs and the air filter and hit 28.3.

After doing a couple thousand miles of mixed driving it will show 20 as an average but my freeway mileage is always high.

Do the speed limit and you'll get good results.

At 46,500 miles my hand calculated mileage is at 19 flat. I expect it to creep back closer to 19.3 over the summer (if I don't leave it running to cool me off while working). This is what it. Was last summer, fell to 18.3 over the winter and now climbing back up.
The 2010 5.4 I had before averaged 17.3 over its life with me. Both tricks carry pretty much the same load, were driven the same and over the same routes.

One thing I forgot... I thought I had 3.55's but apparently I got 3.73 gears with my truck.

Makes it more impressive what it can turn on the highway to me.

Some days the highway is good to you:

My dad's expedition had that lovely 5.4, great engine, plenty of power and torque, but sucks up gas... I do miss that V8 feeling though...
Now don't get me wrong, I love my EcoBoost, but the 5.0 is better if you drive mainly <45 mph with many traffic lights or turns. On acceleration you're using considerably more fuel in an EcoBoost to match the increased air intake, while in a 5.0 you're going to get away with less gas needed to get up to speed. It's when you get to >45 mph that the EcoBoost really becomes Eco. Learned that from my Audi 2.0T, great on gas if you're gentler, but drive it fairly heavy and its gonna suck up gas to match the air.... So the answer is yes, buy an EcoBoost, it's awesome. Unless you live in the city, in which case I'd like to see you park any F150 regardless of engine.

Default Eco Mileage

19000 miles and average mid 18's. About half miles are city and half hwy. If I pull a trailer it goes to 15.
I do think my compressor kicks in to soon but haven't had it back to the dealer since I got it.
If I don't get a Tundra next, I would go with the Eco.
