I have all of 189 miles on my 2013 F150 4x2 with max tow and ecoboost. Since I picked it up with 8 miles on it, I have averaged 20.8mpg on one 90 mile round trip from Spring, TX to Richmond, TX. I was driving 65-75mph. On another 25 mile trip in stop & go traffic, I averaged 17.1mpg. Driving 45-65mph.

just towed for the first time with my '12 4x4,supercrew with ecoboost. Towed my @8000lb boat and got 11.9 mpg. Mixed city and freeway driving a total of @ 80 miles. Very happy with the results. That is better than my old f-350/ diesel. Only have @ 1300 miles total on the truck. If it gets better as many say, all I can say is "Wow".

He was lookin forward to an increase in mileage, and is far from impressed... I've told him that lots of owners see mpg improve with time, and he has only done 3,000 so far so I guess we will see!
Your father-in-law's bone stock 5.4 would be the first in history to get that for a lifetime average (unless it was a 4x2 with tall gearing going 55mph non-stop). I know of no less than five trucks (4x4s) with 5.4s that are 2009/2010 models that routinely get 14-15mpg in town and 16.5-18mpg on the highway. None have EVER touched 20+ mpg.

Default If you want to get 20+ mpg, Aero-Up!

In my 2009 4.6 liter ( the white one) I get 25.5 to 26 mpg at 70 mph with the aerocap and aero bed extender combination.

I built one for a girl who lives in Conway, Arkansas that has a 2011 Ecoboost. On a recent trip to Florida and back to Arkansas she got 28 mpg!

Xlt supercrew 3.73 4x4 with off road package w/ 8000 miles lifetime. Last 2000 miles 18.9 avg (80% city / 20% highway). Most recent 400 miles was 90 city/ 10 highway and averaged 20. The cooler weather in Illinois seems to be helping. Numbers would prob be better if didn't warm truck up 15 min twice a day most days with max heat and fans at max...

I disagree. Colder weather typically hurts mpg but provides better power. And my truck suffers on short trips when engine isn't warm yet. Once I'm out on the road and temp needle gets to the middle then the best mpg start to show. But yes sitting and idling obviously drops the numbers but probably just as evenly as driving it cold for first 15 minutes.

I agree. I drive almost an hour to work. My tranny barely gets to operating temps during that drive!! Cold weather kills my mileage.
