Ecoboost only---real world mileage.

16MPG lifetime for me. I live in a highly populated city with traffic lights that are timed to test my patience everyday. I have no problem getting 23MPG on my way to work in the morning at 5AM w/ little traffic(50/50 highway/city) There is no doubt in my mind this truck is capable of outstanding gas mileage. I've seen it! Don't expect to spend most of your time idling at traffic lights and then complain why you don't get 20MPG like other people. It's not going to happen! Location and Driving Habits will be the 2 biggest factors that dictate gas mileage.

Well just got back from a 500 mile round trip in Florida. Last time I took this trip I averaged 19.5 mpg at 74.5 mph. This time I averaged 17.5 mpg at 85.5 mph. DAMN YOU 3.73's! But you sure are fun around town! It's incredible how you can see the mpg's drop the faster you go. Guess if I want better mileage, I should slow down. Still, my old Sierra Denali with the 6.2 couldn't get 17.5 mpg at 55 mph. I'm still very happy with the results and my truck.

My recent trip across Tennessee
traveled a good piece a cross Tennessee last week, from Clarksville to Galinburg, averaged 23 mpg, my truck had 2000 miles on it when I left. 2 wd screw with 3.15 gears, I was averaging 70-75 mph. I know have 3k, the overall avg. is 19.0, but my truck has spent a lot of time sitting and idling. I'd buy another one in a heartbeat, love it.

It cracks me up that Al Gore was touting airing up tires as a way to reduce CO2 emissions. Driving habits have 100x the effect of putting in a few more psi air pressure, but he wouldn't know that because it is ignorant on the whole subject. If he had half a lick of sense, he would have been pushing for efficient-driving classes. Still dumb, but at least had more potential improvement.

I'll get us off the politics.
I purchased a UltraGauge and installed it. My first test trip was ten miles, on a relatively flat roadway with a full tank of gas, no wind, late in the day, temp 97, no stop lights or signs, average mph was 60, Platinum screw, 3.55, 4x4, 210 # ARE fiberglass topper, 18456 mi. With CRUISE on, my wife made data entries at 30 seconds, of Instant mpg, RPM's and average mpg for a total of 28 data points each the total information was average instant mpg 18.1 with a low of 12 and high of 61; RPM's 1530 average with high of 1700 and low of 1350 and average mpg of 12.3 with a high of 12.3 and low of 12.1.
At no time did the rpm gauge go above 2000 even when starting the trip and the truck was in 6th gear the entire time as far as I was able to visualize.
The trucks average mpg on its gauge indicated 15.1 while the UltraGauge indicated 12.3. All in all the test showed me what I already knew and that is the engines response to even the smallest change in grade has an immediate negative change in instant mpg on the UltraGauge, on the positive side, downhill instant mpg shows a very large positive change on the instant mpg. I am concerned that the UltraGauge showed a gas usage of 3.2 gallons per hour based on that 10 mile trip. If that is the case I can only expect about 502 miles per 27 gallons (27/3.2) x 60miles/hour and that is if I average 60 mph with no wind and no appreciable hills. In real-world results that really sucks and could explain why I only get 14.5 average mpg (391.5 per tank.)
If some of you who routinely get in the low 20's averaging 75mph+, I really don't know how you are doing it. You can see that I am driving better than your granny and still only able to obtain 18.1 mpg. I am less pleased with the EB than I was before I got the UltraGauge.
