Not as much towing as I used to. I do have trailers, about 1 ton loaded, how are the automatics/6speed. I figure it would have a low 1st gear. plus if I tow its interstate mostly maybe twice a year. I actual like the fx 4's better but 3:73s only. My goal is MPG's

A 3.31 should be fine for your driving then. If anything go text drive one and see. The eb can compensate for gearing pretty well

Question my post disappeared on 3:31's

anyhow I don't trailer much, the trailer I have is about 1 ton loaded, use it twice a year on interstate runs.

Took another 500 mile trip towing 2 quads on an aluminum trailer and got 13mpg average. Had 3 people in the cab and bed loaded with gear this time. Even around town and highway driving unloaded it gets nowhere near the sticker mpgs. Still like the truck, it's a lot nicer inside and more comfortable than my pos dodge.

It seems to be hit or miss if you get an ecoboost that gets good mileage. Mine is not one of them. I too thought I would get one to improve my overall mileage but at this point it hasn't happened. I'm headed out on Tues for a road trip and I'll see what it will do at that point. I believe my truck has a miss running 65-70 mph. After my trip I will make an appointment at the dealer to have it checked out.

I haven't posted since spring but now that summer is in full swing, my '11 Eco screw FX4 3.73 is really delivering some great milage. The odo just turned 43,000 miles so she is broken in for sure.

I drive 500 miles a day once per week. On these trips I stick to rural roads rather than the toll highways. 50 to 60 mph and very gentle on the throttle gets me 24 mpg consistantly. It's not crazy warm in northern New England so I shut off the AC when I can. This seems to give me another 1/2 mpg as compared to running the AC on a really humid day.

I reset the main MPG display by mistake in May. Since that reset, I have put on about 10K miles and the average for this period is 22.7 mpg. This includes some highway at 70 mph and daily in-town traffic to pick up the spouse. No towing and no off-road driving in three months.

Overall milage based upon the computer is 20.3 mpg which includes winter towing at 11 mpg on snowmobile trips. The trailer is about 7500 lbs and is a big box with high wind resistance. This is the average for all 43,000 miles so far.

I find the computer to be an outstanding feature and it surprised me how accurate it is. You get your fluctuations when compared to hand calculations but this is due to different gas station nozzles that shut off at different points and if the truck is level. The computer says I have burned 2120 gallons of gas. This is within five gallons of my total gas receipts since the truck was driven off the lot.

No issues yet other than a defective spark plug a month after I bought the truck. I would purchase another Ecoboost. I drove two Tundras before trying the Ford and I'm glad I did. The Tundras were nice and I got great milage with the 5.7 (around 20mpg on trips) but the Ford is a little nicer to drive. I like the quiet engine as compared to the roar of the V8 Toyota. Both are great trucks.

I know three other people with similar trucks and the milage varies wildly. One guy has the same truck with higher gears and he averages 20 mpg. Another guy can manage only 17mpg but he has a bit of a heavy foot. I think you need to drive like you are almost out of gas. Baby the throttle, let off a little down hills and keep a good distance between you and the next guy. Pay attention to the computer screen with the instant milage on the green bar. You can keep this green bar really up there for long periods if you focus on getting the best milage possible. If I was driving only a few miles a week, then my attitude would be different. But with the miles I drive, my gentle throttle foot has saved me nearly 400 gallons of gas in the 12 months I have had the Ecoboost as compared to the Tundra.

I have just over 1k miles on mine now. I was averaging about 16.5 mpg which was bugging me. Today's trip was about 400 miles, all hwy, and I averages 19.9.
I can live with that.
2012 FX4, 3:73, 20" wheels. Screwcab.

Default just back from a 3,000 road trip

Just got home from a 2,962 mile road trip. I own a 2011 ecoboost, 3:73 gear, super club cab, 20" wheels, and a lear bed cover. We burned 154.9 gallons of gasoline, traveled 2962 miles and averaged 19.0 GPM. Not bad for a large truck.

I mostly drove between 73 and 76 miles per hour. The best tank came in at 20.5 mpg the worst at 18.7 mpg. The obvious difference in mileage was because of head wind, tail wind, up hill climbs, flat surfaces, and an occasional down hill run. All in all for a truck the size of the new "Super Club Cab" not a bad showing.

I have 11,000 miles on the odometer and average between 16.8 and 17.4 mpg around town. Keep in mind I have a lot of 40 - 45 mph speeds I can drive around town. Again not bad for a "BIG" truck. Sure I would like to get 22 on the high - but I will give up a few miles for all the creature comforts my Lariat provides.
