Interesting thread. I just spent a couple hours reading this one and have checked out many others totalling thousands of responses, and have come to conclude that the F150 ecoboost has the most inconsistent and wildly varied mpg estimates that i have ever seen for any pick up that i have ever researched. The reports of drivers reporting a sharp drop in fuel economy well after the break in period is somewhat disconcerting as well. I realize that driving habits, fuel grades, altitude, topograhphy, etc can all have a bearing but something seems to be up here with this new engine when so many mileage estimates vary so greatly.

With that said, I'm interested in hearing from owners living in the northern States and Canada. Particularly those driving at altitude and in mountainous/hilly regions. I live in British Columbia and frequently drive to Alberta and back. Cold air seems to drop fuel economy and its pretty cool in most of Canada for a good six months of the year.

I'm not expecting 20 mpg mixed driving from a truck this big but I do want a good ratio of performance to fuel economy and many of these numbers fall well short of this.

Just approaching 1000 miles and I have been averaging 14.3 for the life of the vehicle. I was chalking up the mileage to break in. My Cummins Ram didn't really break in until 10k miles. Sounds like that may not be the case. I have a 3.31 rear end as well so I was expecting better.

I have a 2012 Fx4 Crew 3.73 gears and from Syracuse to Watertown NY 60 miles the trip computer said 19.1 not bad not bad at all. so fare the overall mileage is 15.7 I am happy with that.

I say go for it. I just traded my 2010 F-250 6.4 TD and was barealy able to get 11 mpg Highway, although it had a 4 1/2" lift and 35's but even before that I only got 13MPG's. Add in all the regen hassles and burning gas just to complete a regen and its a no brainer.

I just bought a 2012 FX Edition FX4 Ecoboost and LOVE IT. My truck payment went down, the cost of gas vs diesel is lower, I chopped one full year off the finacing, my Inc. went down, I get better gas milege.

The Ecoboost motor in my truck was built in Jan 2012.
Details:
3.73 Gears
6 spd select shift tranny
FX4 w\FX appearance package\Tuxedo Black

I only have 300 miles on it so far and am getting 13.1 MPG so far but
this is all city for the most part and not much highway. I know once its broke in the MPG's will go up. So far I love this truck.

This is a Jerkyl and Hyde engine. Baby it and get great gas mileage. But it is also powerful and deceptively fast. Use the boost and you will get horrible mileage. It doesn't seem like a mystery to me . . .

Default Mixed Ecoboost Mileage...

At 3713.5 miles it's lifetime is 13.4, it can't seem to get better than 15 on the highway at 65mph. I took it to Cinncinatti a few weeks ago, it got 15.4 on the flat level Ohio land. It was heading west into the wind. On the way home we picked up a ton (literally) of white oak hardwood flooring... and it got 16.3 MPG!!! It liked the load? Granted I had the flu so my wife drove it home, but it was highway and she was doing 70, and I was doing 70 when I was driving. I usually only let it have BP mid grade or better. I'm hoping I see an improvement after the summer gas comes, or this truck is getting traded in. I traded my 2010 STX 4.6L in on this thing, the old truck was doing 16.1 average doing the same work this one can only get 13.4 doing. 3.73, SCREW, long bed. I'm sorry to say I wouldn't buy this engine again.

Hi folks! I wouldn't of believed it but my preliminary results are telling me that running my ecoboost on premium is more economical. Southern Ontario winter driving mostly cruise control and mixed terrain and "boosting her" every now and then..call it "normal" driving. My truck just turned 5,000 kilometers and on my last fill-up I averaged 21 miles per Canadian gallon. On my computer that would be shown as 13L/100 km. I have gotten as good as 12.4L/100 km (23mpg) on premium and as bad as 15.5 (18mpg) on regular fuel. Wow, 5 mpg on just a fuel grade change...same driving...every week. I have an appointment for the firmware update and anticipate even better mileage. So, I will only run "real" non-ethanol premium fuel in my engine. These calcs were done with gas receipts and odometer readings. Supercab 6sp sst tranny, hd trailer tow, 3.55 e-locker, 5.5' bed, bug deflector, moulded mud flaps and a soft box cover.

So are you assuming that everyone reporting low fuel mileage numbers are romping on it all the time? I don't think that's very likely...Usually people concerned about their mileage aren't going to be hotrodding around all the time.

First 5,000 miles was 18.2 lifetime. Second 5,000 miles took my 18.2 down to 16.0mpg, which means the second 5,000 has to of averaged 14. It's going in tomorrow and addressing a few issues. MPG is one of them and I believe my front right 4x4 actuator is trying to engage at higher speeds. After all the updates I'll get back to you guys.

2011 EB Platinum w 13,000 miles. Changed the tires to 305-55-20 Nitto Terra Grappler. Initially I was getting 14-16 in town driving and 18-21 on the highway. No additional changes since purchase. Now I am getting 11 around town and my best is 15 on highway. Not sure why the drop.
