Default Ecoboost intercooler guard

I advise all Ecoboost owners to get some type of grill or guard or you could end up like me. After having to replace front brakes and rotors at 28k I did an oil change as well. I was inspecting my intercooler and found a hole from a rock. When the trucks running you can feel the air pushing out. Now I'm buying a 300 dollar intercooler from Ford. Yay me.

Interesting, thanks for posting those.

I have an IC guard and was on the fence about it after all the "its gonna destroy your turbos" comments. There were educated comments on both sides of the fence about having a guard and the possible determent to performance.

However these pics clearly show the benefit the grill would have had. The "fins" on mine would have def. deflected a rock that caused that damage.

Since its road damage I guess there is no way it could be covered under warranty. I guess this is just one of the many design flaws that goes with stuffing a new powerplant with unique needs into an old body style with no updating for the new technology.

FWIW, here is the grill I used:

Are you listening Ford?

This is the exact reason why I put the lower grille on mine. I can't believe Ford does try to protect it at all.

Is there a place you can get an intercooler grill? I was wondering about this the day I picked up my truck! It is pretty dang exposed IMO.....
