Ecoboost engine misfire (spark plug) TSB
#21
Have same issue on a 2011 EcoBoost crew cab w/ 60k miles. Engine started missing (violently at highway speed) at exactly 60,000 miles like there was a timer on it At dealer now for $450 of plugs & boots. Extended warranty (bought w/ truck but not from Ford - 3rd party) doesn't cover, factory warranty doesn't cover. Dealer researched and said while yes there is a TSB, there is not any type of recall associated with it. I didn't like that answer so I called Ford customer service. They were most unhelpful and just referred it back to the dealership service manager. So if others have had this fixed, maybe your particular dealership ate it out of goodwill? I've done a fair amount of [very polite & respectful] griping & moaning, and neither Ford nor the 3rd party extended warranty company will cover a dime of new plugs & boots.

Doesn't the emissions warranty run to 100k???
Per the TSB:
WARRANTY STATUS:
Eligible Under Provisions Of New Vehicle Limited Warranty Coverage And Emissions Warranty Coverage

I tried every warranty cover in the book an they said no. Its even better because im sure not too many people realize that ford changed the gapping on the plugs in 2013 and they wont own up to replacements and that boosted engines are hard on plugs. My dealer even told me that 50,000 is premature to change them. Yeah,,, ok. Dicks

I'd like to look into this. Please send me a PM with your case number, or VIN and phone number. I'll do some digging to see how I can assist.

mine is a 2012 and I had same thing...I was pulling my camper and engine was shuddering, light came on, it was like trans didn't know when to shift. I took it in, and turns out it was the plugs..they replaced them and told me it wasn't under warrenty because they are wearable parts..cant remember what it cost, a few hundered bucks. Truck had like 65000 miles on it. That was in the fall of 2016. I just picked up my truck because check engine light was on, and I had that grinding noise like when vaccum pump goes, and the left catalytic converter was bad. THAT was covered under warrenty. I have 78000 miles now.
I was on here looking at suggestions of when to change plugs because I figure the bad plugs in the fall contributed to the catalytic converter failing and I found this TSB post about plugs. I'm sure I totally lost out, but I will go to dealership and try to get reimbursed..some crock of bull the way they get you like that. I've been pretty happy with my truck, but this sort of thing annoys me.
