Ecoboost Display Gears
I just noticed today that my gears show up on the left side of my display. I went through the pictures on here and one some pics they do and some they don't. Check the real world MPG thread for pics I swear I do not remember this on the display. Anyone else notice this? or is it all in my head.

If you hit the "+" or "-" button on the shifter, they will appear. Every time you restart they will disappear. some have reported a reflash will keep them on all the time, and some later production trucks already are like that.

apparently there is an update to make the gears show all the time. But my dealer doesnt seem to think there is.

My XLT shows all the time.
Press + until they all show, then press + one more time. |
Mine shows all the time on my XLT
|

Press + until they all show, then press + one more time. I press the + until they all show, if I've been playing with the - button. Otherwise just press the + once. If I press it one more time they all go away. Very cool. I've wanted this display since I first got the truck. |
The latest PCM calibration does make the display stay on permanently (until you turn it off), I just got it. Tell the dealer to just flash the truck anyway...
|
I've tried the + once and then + again, but it didn't work for me as far as staying on permanently.
What else does the flash change besides the gear shift display? Everything on my truck works fine so I am kind of leery of a flash especially if it might screw something up. Thanks |
they show on my Eco, but the 3.7 rental i got for a day didn't show unless i made it every time i restarted the truck..

Idle calibration for ecoboosts, and corrects the calculation for certain emissions codes so they don't come on as easily on all engines
It -seems- that my ecoboost doesn't smoke as bad anymore on startup, but I've not really had a chance to check it recently. Stuff i'm not totally sure of - the engine seems louder, especially under load, and it seems to accelerate faster. I have no way of testing this. also i think that the MyKey system now allows the radio volume to be maxed out when using a bluetooth phone, pretty sure it was limited to 45% before (Regular radio is still limited to 45%, though) |
Thanks.
But I think I will pass for now anyway. I don't want to chance it just for the gear shift display. |

Has your MPG changed?
|
MPG is exactly the same as before. Throttle just seems to respond faster.
~17 MPG at 75 MPH ~21 MPG at 65 MPH ~23 MPG at 55 MPH |
Mine now displays the gears after they replaced the intermediate clutch plates and updated tcm, pcm.
|
Mine just goes off if I hit the + twice. XLT

I can't really answer that, as my driving changes alot. But in what I consider my worst driving scenario, short trips at high speed, it hasn't changed at all. Matter of fact I'm getting better with my Eco than a co-worker is with his 5.0, and he should be doing much better due to a 20 mile each way commute with some nice highway cruising. My drive is 4.5 miles each way, with a 2 mile hit at 70 before the truck is warm. |
