About 15 min after the episode, and the rain was gone, I did several 55 to 80 mph wot runs with no issues.

I only have a 1/32 hole in the intercooler, and its on the incoming side of it.
plug that one with a tiny screw and drill one on the other side; the other thing is I have Sport and Tow/Haul tunes so I leave it in tow haul and the truck idles at stop signs.

Hey fella's.

I have heard about this mod in the past. I am pulling the trigger on an 18' 2.7L CC tomorrow.

I am purchasing a JLT catch can for the truck. Should I still drill a small hole in the intercooler, or will the catch can be enough ? I am new to the ecoboost / turbo engine scene. I have only owned some V6 SUV's and a RAM 5.7 V8 in years past. Just want to insure the engine is clean as possible and I avoid the ecoboost shudder I have read about.

TY !

Don't know how well this applies to the 15+ and to the 2.7l. Might be better to ask in that section instead of the 09-14 as a lot of us don't have experience with the newer eco's.

The 2.7L with the active shutter system doesn't need it. That's my experience with the sport and tow haul tune. I run it in tow haul most of the time in traffic so it doesn't shut down all the time at lights, unless I want to concerve gasoline and not worry abut HVAC temps. I did remount the front license plate below the bumper via a little bit of trimming. Tow haul also activates 2nd shift downs before stopping, I like that.

Important thing with the shutter system is that you build turbo speeds instead of driving it like it has a blower on it. The turbo builds boost and boom you go. bring your RPM's up and then ask for performance. I love the Sport tune and when I wish I just close ratio the tranny with the M feature and go. The turbo's give the 2.7 incredible power in the hills, it loves them no mater how steep, you just build RPM and it rips up them. While others are choking the Turbos getty up go.

Default drilled my intercooler

2 weeks ago I drove 7 hours and about 700 kms in pouring rain .......pulled on to another highway to merge and got the dreaded hesitation and it kept misfiring for about a minute ....just about got rear ended by an 18 wheeler as I couldnt maintain even 80 kph ( 50mph)......check engine light came on for about 2 mins and went out and truck resumed running OK..........got home and used my OBD scan tool and no codes saved .......I did research for the past couple weeks and decide to drill the intercooler ........when I revved it up the wateroil mix came out and resembled a pool of gunk from an air compressor drain........I can see why after a long trip this goop would choke up the truck and cause misfiring .......calls for a lot of rain for the next few days so I`ll see if the fix corrects it ......bought the 2013 XTR 3.5 Ecoboost used with 85,000kms on it and pleased so far except for that single incident ........hope this is the fix

Sad to say that your story is all too familiar on many message boards. Sad that Ford just swept this under the rug.

I drove 4 hours yesterday in a pure steady rain then punched it once to pass in a 60 mph 2 lane situation an “getty up go” we went. 2.7L with tow/haul tune.
